The Business Systems Consultant develops requirements specifications for all parts of the system, creates and documents the test plan, oversees testing activities, and audits the results. This documentation will be used to analyze and/or confirm system functionality.
The Analyst also helps prepare and conduct system functionality training for users of the systems when the project goes live, and serves as a resource during the implementation of the systems.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Review, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user needs.
- Analyze business processes and review existing information systems.
- Write detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify systems.
- Partner and interview stakeholders, gather and develop requirements and necessary approvals and sign-offs.
- Analyze process flows, identify opportunities for improvement.
- Map existing business processes.
- Document existing business processes and business rules.
- Participate in the design of new system enhancements that support business processes.
- Design and implement new or improved business processes.
- Review new systems designs and functions.
- Compare differences between existing and new enhancements.
Demonstrate expertise in a variety of applicable concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze trade-offs between usability and performance needs.
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- May provide consultation on complex projects.
- May lead and direct the work of others.
Seven (7) years progressive experience analyzing and solving business problems through the development of business applications, including two (2) years experience with multiple applications systems.
- Experience in Agile and Standard Waterfall SDLC processes, as well as requirements gathering, specification development, and authoring of test scripts and release notes.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills are essential, and knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word, and Access, and other relational PC database applications.
- Excellent writing skills to communicate information effectively to customers and technical staff.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Project or team leadership experience is a plus.
- Insurance industry experience is a plus.
