[itroundtable] Correction: LinkedIn Tip: Don't let LinkedIn use your picture to advertise products

LinkedIn got so much flack from this issue that they removed the link to
"Manage Social Advertising", so LinkedIn can't use us for their advertising.
Now you don't need to do anything.

Sorry about that.  Thanks to those who reminded me.

Tip from Patrick Omalley.
In case you haven't already changed your LinkedIn setting.

LinkedIn using your picture to advertise products (social advertising)

Posted: 30 Jan 2012 12:20 PM PST

Summary:
LinkedIn may now use your picture to advertise other products.  Change privacy settings if you don't like this.
Details:
LinkedIn is doing "social advertising", which means that they can use your picture in LinkedIn ads that are shown to your connections to advertise products that you might not endorse.  Your connections may be misled and think you endorse them, depending on how savvy they are.  (Facebook did this at one point, and most people hated it).
LinkedIn was probably using my picture to "get attention from the ladies".
Here's how you stop it:
  1. Hover your cursor over your name in the upper right hand corner of your LinkedIn page
  2. Click Settings
  3. In the lower left, click "Account"
  4. In the top middle, click "Manage Social Advertising"
  5. Uncheck and Save
Call LinkedIn and offer to sell the use of your picture for $500,000 per year, as I did.
Still waiting.
Do you care if they use your picture?

Subject: CBAP study group - initial meeting

I'm delighted at how many of you share my interest in studying the BABOK and perhaps getting a CBAP.  Karen LoBue is willing to host our first meeting at her home in Madison, NJ (48 Dean St - 1 block in from Main St/Rt 124).  TENTATIVELY I would like to meet there on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  The date or time may change if too many cannot come.

Please reply to the following questions no later than Wednesday, Feb. 22:
1) Are you able to come to this first meeting at this date/time?
2) What town are you coming from?  (To help find a suitable central location.)
3) What are your PREFERRED days/times?
4) What days/times will NOT work for you?

I will try to accommodate as many of us as possible.  Going forward, we may be able to split into two groups (Northern NJ and Central NJ).

Looking forward to some great interaction!

Sincerely,
Kevin Sorensen

Resending: LinkedIn Tip: Turn off your broadcast activity before cha

Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:57 am (PST)

[Tip]   Before you start changing your profile and go back and forth to add some punctuation error or modify, you need to turn off your broadcast activity. You would hate to broadcast to everyone every time you decide to change one little detail.
1.  Go to LinkedIn and click on "settings" on the dropdown underneath your name. This is on the top right hand side of the screen.
2.  You may be prompted to enter your password again, but you will be directed to the settings page.
3.  On the bottom, you will see 4 tabs starting with "Profile", look for "Turn on/off your activity broadcast", click on it.
4.  A window will pop up asking you to check/uncheck the box.
5.  If you are looking to turn off a broadcast about each simple change to your profile, be sure to uncheck the box.
