Position Responsibilities - Summary

The Senior UNIX Administrator position is a hands-on administrative job
responsible for the day-to-day support, maintenance and project support of
my client's UNIX, (Solaris), environment and to a lessor extent, some Linux,
(Red Hat), support. Responsibilities will be based primary in their Boston
office, and will also extend to their co-location facility and disaster
recovery facility, both in the Eastern Massachusetts region.

The Senior UNIX Administrator is responsible for all aspects of UNIX
administration including, but not limited to monitoring, troubleshooting and
repairing software issues at the OS level on servers running Solaris and
Oracle Sun Cluster. The candidate will also be assigned project-based work
based on the current demands of the business project portfolio.

Detailed Responsibilities:

· Administration of UNIX/Linux environment including but not limited
to patching, troubleshooting, account management, and security.

· Act as the Infrastructure Services technical advisor on any
projects that will involve UNIX and/or Linux environments.

· Installation and support of all third-party tools which reside on
the OS including both application middleware and performance/security
monitoring tools.

· Configure and install new servers, devices, and peripherals.

· Monitors and corrects hardware issues involving, disk, memory, and
CPU.

· Install and configure all Unix OS related patches and system
upgrades as prescribed by company standards.

· Adhere to a strict Change Management policy to ensure timely
notification, testing and approval for ALL system related changes that
impact the environment.

· Handle Tier 2 calls escalated from the help desk.

· Document, draft and maintain UNIX server procedures including but
not limited to security, patching, standard operating procedures, server
checklists, etc. regarding the UNIX environment.

· Report weekly the status of ongoing projects, tasks, and
responsibilities to his/her manager.

· Of paramount importance is the strict adherence to policies and
procedures and, where necessary or requested, drafting and promoting new
policies and procedures.

· Ensure that detailed inventories and maintenance agreements are
available and in place for all UNIX devices.

· Develop and maintain technical documentation for system and user
support staff regarding all system issues.

· Provide metrics for the UNIX environment reporting on stability of
environment.

· Mentoring and training of others to provide backup support.

Required Skills and Competencies:

· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a multi-server
environment with proven Solaris system administration responsibilities.

· Experience in a transaction-oriented environment helpful.

· Experience with Solaris 10 is required.

· Working knowledge of Oracle databases. - Experience with Oracle
Sun Cluster is required

· Shell scripting knowledge is required.

· Experience with the build, distribution, installation, and
maintenance of Open Source tools (Apache, Tomcat, OpenSSH, OpenSSL, BIND,
Java, and Samba) is required.

· Hands-on experience with Veritas Volume Manager, Solaris Volume
Manager, and ZFS is preferred.

· Hands-on experience with dynamically adding and removing SAN
storage on Solaris hosts.

· Must be a team player and willing to partner with internal and
external groups.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education
· Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent work
experience required.

· IT related certification(s) preferred.

· Work across teams such as with middleware, database, and
architecture teams to coordinate and facilitate production releases of IC
applications

· Author architecture, technical design, and support documentation

Required Skills and Competencies:

· 10 years of software development experience

· 4+ years of proven object-oriented software design and development
experience in dynamic Web 2.0 technologies and browser based technologies.

· 3+ years of experience with web services APIs, Spring, XML/XSLT,
Struts

· Must be comfortable working with Oracle databases, and possess
excellent Oracle SQL, SQL tuning, and PL/SQL skills

· Must be self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal
supervision

· Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Financial industry knowledge is a huge plus

Saturday, November2nd from 8:30 - 11:00 am: Careers in Transition (CIT) meeting.Individuals give a 15 second elevator speech about themselves -- who you are,what you are looking for, target companies (2-3), how the group can help you,and how you can help the group. This is followed by a short period fornetworking with people you would like to introduce yourself to and exchangebusiness cards. The group then divides into smaller teams for: 1) ResumeAssistance, (Please bring 15 copies of your resume if you want it reviewed.) or2) Support in Overcoming Job Search Obstacles.
