Position Responsibilities - Summary
This position requires individual to design, code and unit test back office
software applications for complex derivatives securities and trades.
This individual's software abilities and experience must include batch
process development, database design and database performance tuning,
transactional middleware development, message-driven application development
and rich web-based user interface development.
The individual must be able to assess business requirements, provide
feedback and suggest opportunities for improvements to analyst design based
on technology opportunities and to design an application that thoroughly
meets those business requirements. The individual must be able to relay to
analysts, though documentation and presentations, how the design meets
business requirements. The individual must be able to similarly relay to
software developer peers how the design adheres to recommended technology
principles, how it will robustly handle complex scenarios and to discuss key
technical complexities in the design.
The individual should have knowledge or aptitude to build knowledge of
complex financial securities - specifically credit and interest rate swaps
and swaptions as well as other derivatives (futures, forward, etc.).
Responsibilities:
* Work with business team, project managers, and systems analysts to
review business requirements, functional specifications, use-cases, and test
plans.
* Participate in architecture, design, development, and
implementation of new software components and applications based on
functional specifications.
* Work with other software engineers to design and implement
application features, including user interfaces, and business functionality
enhancements.
* Author technical design and support documentation.
Required Skills and Competencies: (Should have experience in the following
technologies):
* Java EE
* Perl 5
* Oracle stored procedures and complex SQL queries
* Transactional and persistence frameworks for Java (JPA,
Hibernate, EJB 3)
* JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, JSP
* Spring Framework
* Maven
Other facets of this role and other necessary skills:
* Rapid response to production issues - ability to diagnose complex
issues under pressure
* Ability to assess software infrastructure needs and diagnose
necessary upgrades and recommend capacity
* Ability to work closely with other senior software engineers,
analysts and quality assurance engineers and to build consensus through open
dialogue and constructive feedback.
* Ability to quickly learn new framework technologies and process
tools (such as batch management tools, issues tracking systems)
* Conduct code reviews
* Write thorough automated unit tests
* Research and understand new complex securities
* Hold design discussions with vendors and relay technology needs
thoroughly and succinctly
* Minimum degree required: Bachelors in Math, Science, Engineering
or Computer Science
* Minimum years' experience: 8-10 years
