Free Cancer Screening for the Uninsured -New York -Update

Posted by: "robertjzanfardino" zanfardino4@earthlink.net   robertjzanfardino

Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:18 am (PDT)

Hi All,

I have been asked by the American Cancer Society of Dutchess County to thank you all for the great turn out on 9/15/10 at the Job Fair in regards to the free cancer screening sign up. But they also wanted me to remind you that the program is still open to all NYS residents and hope that you participant in the program soon. Below is the information that I sent out to you about a month ago. Even if you live in Connecticut or New Jersey, you may know of family in New York who could use this program. In fact you should contact the American Cancer Society in your state for similar programs………

In my networking pursuits I have had the opportunity to speak with the American Cancer Society in Dutchess County. They just informed me that New York State has funded a program that provides free cancer screenings to the uninsured. Believe it or not, it has been difficult reaching their target population, specifically, women 40 and over for breast and cervical screenings; and men and women 50 and over for colon screenings. I told them that I should not have a problem finding
people of that age range in the groups that we all belong to.

This program covers all counties in NY State. The toll free telephone number is: 1-866-442-2262 . In Dutchess County(NY) the number is 845-452-2932.

I do not have any information regarding CT or NJ but it would be worth a call for you to contact the American Cancer Society in each state for a similar program.

Please pass this around to your other networking groups. This is important information that needs to be shared.

Regards,

Rob

New Seminar Series 10/27/10 Market Place 2010 - Grand Hotel, Poughke

Posted by: "robertjzanfardino" zanfardino4@earthlink.net   robertjzanfardino

Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:27 am (PDT)

Folks,

I am very excited to announce, due to the demand from the seminar series at the job fair on 9/15/10 , The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce has asked the Work Local First Committee to put it on again.

Last year during the chamber's "Showcase of Champions" the Work Local First seminars series kicked off. This year we are back with even a bigger line up. In addition to Vickie Causa, Ellyn Enisman and myself who have been asked to repeat our presentations, we will be adding a fourth speaker Carol Heady who will bring her own set of strategies that you can use in your job search. In addition we will be having a Q and A period which proved to be very popular with the audience.

Market Place 2010 will be held on 10/27/10 from 11:00 to 3:00 and showcase many of the businesses located in the Hudson Valley area. Although not a job fair, this will be another great opportunity to network and do your research on employers in the area plus have another opportunity to get your job related questions answered.

The Market Place 2010 is free as well as the seminar series. I will provide additional information in the coming weeks.

Rob
