*Subject:* *hello from Westport Library*

Hello everyone on my jobseeker email list,

I hope you fared ok during and after the storm. I'm sure that, like me,
many of you have lost electricity, internet and heat at home. Hopefully,
we will all be able to have the creature comforts restored soon.

Meanwhile, keep in mind that the library can be a refuge for you. Come to
Westport Library to charge your devices, get warm, continue your job
search, and be with other people in the same boat as you. (Who knows what
random networking opportunities might occur when you're sitting at a table
with others.) We offer free wifi internet service for your laptop or
tablet; keep in mind that sometimes during this crisis the number of people
who try to use our wifi exceeds our limit of about 400 users. When that
happens, you may have difficulty logging in until someone else logs out.
But you can *always* have free internet service on one of the library's 24
public computers, which are connected directly to the Internet and do not
use wifi. When you're here, ask at the reference desk how you can reserve
a public computer for an hour, or use a 15-minute computer to check your
email. Just bring your library card with you, (a Westport card if you live
in Westport, or a library card from the town where you live) as you use
that to sign on to a computer. If you don't have a card , or if you've
left it home, please ask at the reference desk how you can get on a public
computer.

Many people were disappointed when, due to the storm, we had to cancel the
Jobseeker Special on The WorkPlace <http://www.workplace.org/>'s programs
for long-term unemployed, that had been scheduled for October 30. We will
reschedule for another time; I just don't know when that is yet. When I
know, I'll email you.

We have three Jobseeker programs scheduled for November:

*Jobseekers: Energize Your Job Search*

Tuesday, Nov 13, 2012 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Westport Library McManus Room – no reservation necessary

Gain an advantage by using valuable online tools such as *Reference USA,

your key companies, spot industry trends, and get in-depth background
information for greater success in networking and interviewing.

*Jobseeker Special: How To Be a Great Presenter*

Tuesday, Nov 20, 2012 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Westport Library McManus Room – no reservation necessary

Think you have to be funny to be a sought after speaker? Think a PowerPoint
deck with all the bells and whistles is a necessity? Wishing you could be a
speaker "like" Tony Robbins or Zig Ziglar? Think again. Public speaking
coach *Debbie Fay,* founder of Bespeak Presentation Solutions, LLC, debunks
the myths and illuminates the realities of what makes confident compelling
change-making presenters and presentations, the kind who deliver
presentations that audiences listen to, learn from and LOVE.

*Jobseeker Special: Advanced Resume Workshop*

Tuesday, Nov 27, 2012 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM – *advance registration with the
CT Dept. of Labor is required*

*Michael Shavel,* Certified Professional Resume Writer, presents this CT
Dept. of Labor workshop to help you fine-tune your resume. Space is
limited, and *advance registration with Mary Malenda, CT Dept. of Labor, at

have the opportunity for a 15-minute private resume review at a later date.
