The Breakfast Club NJ Presents:  "Using Social Media to Enhance Your Job Search"
by Matthew Levy

Saturday May 10, 2014 at 8:00 am

Please share with other groups you may be in.

The Presentation: "Using Social Media to Enhance Your Job
Search"

You've been there...

Applying for jobs posted on
internet job boards and never hearing a word.
Sending your resume around and not getting many nibbles. Statistics show
that only a small percentage of jobs are posted and they attract hundreds of candidates.  It can feel like playing the lottery.  You wonder: how are you supposed to stand
out?

You'd think it would be
impossible, but it's not. It doesn't have to be that way.  You just have to be a little creative…
Come invest in yourself by
learning from Matt during this interactive presentation how to stand out from
the crowd by using social media tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, blogging,
email marketing and YouTube so that corporate recruiters, headhunters, hiring
managers and potential clients will be attracted to you, will find you, will
call you and ultimately hire you!

Subject: AITP Meeting - Tuesday, May 13th

To: AITP Members and Friends of the Garden State Chapter

Our next AITP meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at The Gran Centurions banquet facility inClark, NJ.  Please note that this is a change of venue from that previously planned for May. The Gran Centurions is not far from Aliperti's, which is where we held last month's meeting. Please see below for directions to The Gran Centurions.

Once again the Chapter is providing an excellent presentation on a 'hot' topic -BI and Big Data. The presenter is Vlad Usatin from Attivio. I really hope you can make the meeting, and please consider bringing a colleague or friend.

Again, I kindly ask that you let me know if you will be attending.

Thanks,
Doug Hobby

Big Content: The Unsung Hero of BI and Big Data - Vlad Usatin

============================================
Big Data has been the talk of the analytics world for quite a while and shows no signs of slowing down. The promise of analyzing all relevant information, regardless of source, is an incredibly appealing idea. But despite all the buzz and interest, very few data implementations have moved beyond the core Hadoop use cases of Web analytics, ad click analysis and failure prediction. This limited perspective has a lot to do with the fact that all big data has typically been lumped under the label of unstructured data, thus limiting its potential.

Putting all types of information, including that which is not traditionally structured data, under a single label makes it difficult for companies to take a more nuanced view of their data landscape. Mr. Usatin will explain how Attivio, with its Active Intelligence Engine, combines big data with big content, including Hadoop and most other human generated information, to analyze everything. This approach provides the customer with the biggest bang for the buck. Big content, thus, is an unsung hero, if you will.

THE SPEAKER
=========
Vlad Usatin has over 19 years experience in the software industry, where he has held roles in development, management and architecture. His experiences with Bank America and Barclays has given him exposure to prime brokerage, commodities trading, wealth management, compliance and many other business and technical areas of the financial industry. Prior to his banking experience Vlad wrote software for companies in the fashion, insurance and supply-chain management industries. He joined Attivio several years ago. Vlad speaks 5 languages.

PRESIDENT'S COMMENTS
================
A comment especially directed to those considering attending a Chapter meeting for the first time: the cost of the meeting includes a buffet dinner and soft drinks. We provide a networking opportunity for over an hour before the speaker commences his presentation. Attendees are expected to have their meal during this period.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF AITP TO ATTEND THIS EVENT!

This will be our first meeting at The Gran Centurions. Since the facility is associated with Alperti's, we expect the food there to be comparable to that experienced at Alperti's. If coming from the GSP, I suggest that you give yourself an extra 3 or 4 minutes getting to the Centurion vs. getting to Alperti's.

Attivio, Inc. is a progressive software company specializing in enterprise search solutions and unified information access. Their primary product is the Active Intelligence Engine (AIE). The company's leadership consists of senior engineers and business people.

Next month the Chapter is doing something that I believe you will find exciting. We have formed a Career Panel consisting of a company CIO, a career coach, an HR executive and a senior recruiter. We even surprised ourselves by gaining some really high-powered people to serve on the panel. They will discuss IT career opportunities in NJ and related topics, and will be accepting questions from the attendees. The meeting will be held again at The Gran Centurions. You will be receiving additional meeting information well before the June 10th date. Please add this event to your calendar. You won't want to miss it.

FUTURE MEETINGS
============
Next month will be our last meeting of the Chapter year. After breaking for the July and August summer months, the Chapter will resume its monthly meetings in September, most likely the second Tuesday of each month as we do now.

TCN's May 19th meeting will proudly present a return engagement from career and interviewing coach Alex Freund. Alex's presentation is titled:

"HOW TO UNDERSTAND AND ADAPT TO THE CURRENT JOB MARKET"

This presentation explains the reason for the uncertainly in today's job market, the ways employers are reacting, and the impact on job seekers. It explains the role of recruiters now and in the future. It gives suggestions about how best to work with recruiters. And it describes two new tools: one that identifies the keywords employers use for a specific position and how to match those words with your resume and one with visual slides to identify the things employers want versus the things a job seeker's resume offers.
