POSITION SUMMARY
As part of the Production team, the Systems Engineer designs, builds, and supports technologies to provide a world-class SaaS platform. The System Engineer is responsible for server hardware, Microsoft operating systems, and software for production environments. The Systems Engineer requires a high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work effectively across departments.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the implementation, configuration, and monitoring of the operations of server hardware (local), operating systems (local and cloud), and applications used in the SPS Commerce production environment.
Seek out potential technology enhancements, evaluate, propose, architect, and implement enhancements following project management and change management procedures.
Be self-motivated to seek out potential technology enhancements. Evaluate, propose, and implement enhancements.
Provide strong technical leadership and collaborative coaching for other Technology Operations team members.
Responsible for the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing operations of server hardware, operating systems, and applications used in the SPS Commerce production environments in both the physical data centers as well as AWS.
Engage with Development and Product Management teams to develop, scale, and improve production systems and services.
Monitor and administer systems as assigned to provide appropriate documentation, cross-training, capacity management, and recommendations for future state.
Participate in an on-call support schedule.
Performing additional project work as assigned
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED 5+ years of experience in the IT field working in an enterprise environment.
5+ years of experience administering Windows, IIS, and SQL Servers.
Experience with Amazon Web Services or other cloud based computing highly desired.
Experience with enterprise and application performance monitoring tools.
Experience with VMware vSphere / ESXi 4.x and/or 5.x required.
Working knowledge of EMC Unisphere with CX/VNX SAN s highly desired
Chef or Puppet experience desired Scripting skills in PowerShell and other scripting languages desired.
Demonstrated understanding of networking systems including, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, Active Directory.
Demonstrated knowledge of storage systems including iSCSI, Fiber SAN, JBOD, and NFS.
Working knowledge of network routing, switching and firewalls desired
Previous experience with Software as a Service (SaaS) operations
Efficient communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated
Experience working in both project focused and operations management environments.
