A cloud-based hiring tool does away with the paper chase.

David Rosenbaum
<http://www3.cfo.com/Print/PrintArticle?pageId=44234f13-ebd2-4569-952f-b986c
94f7ed5>

In a recent survey, more than a quarter of the responding CFOs said they
increased accounting staff in the past two years. Indeed, the biggest growth
in jobs right now seems to be occurring in the professional- and
business-services sector. But chances are the majority of those
organizations are still hiring the old-fashioned way: posting openings and
sifting through piles of résumés.

Not Esker, a French-based document-automation company that has gone from 220
full-time employees to 280 in the past two years. "I haven't looked at a
résumé in nine months," says Esker managing director and U.S. chief
operating officer Steve Smith, "and I won't look at résumés anymore."

Instead, Smith uses Unrabble, a cloud-based, software-as-a-service hiring
tool that eliminates all the paper, résumés included. "If a candidate
approaches me the old-fashioned way and sends me a résumé, I send the person
the link to the tool and tell [him he's] got to go through this process," he
says. "Within 30 seconds, I can tell if it's worth my time looking into this
person."

Article: It Is Ok That You Are Out Of Work (Net-Temps)

It Is Ok That You Are Out Of Work

Most people are embarrassed if they are unemployed. They feel like they
failed and are ashamed to talk about their current status. Or, they are back
to work after a long stretch of not working, but are worried it might not
last. Thus, their fears prevent them from performing as well as they could.

Bad things happen to the best of us. Maybe you had a job you loved and were
let go. Maybe you knew your employment was going to end, or maybe it was a
surprise. Maybe you are not sure who you are these days anymore because your
previous job defined you. Maybe you wish things would just go back to the
way they were. Maybe you hope the uncertainty will end already.

The biggest fear my clients have is how do they talk about what happened in
a positive way. Especially, when they are not feeling very positive about
their situation. They worry they will be judged and no one will listen to
their story.

You don't have to dread the question: "Why have you been unemployed for so
long?" Rather expect it, embrace it, and have an answer ready that makes
both you and the interviewer, (Or anyone you are networking with), feel good
about themselves.

How to Troubleshoot Your Job Search Problems

April 18, 2012 . by Dorothy Tannahill-Moran
<http://www.careerealism.com/author/dorothy-tannahill-moran/>

A job search <http://www.careerealism.com/job-search-help-mom/> can feel
like a lonely process.

It's definitely not a group activity; and you can't be very breath taking at
a party when you discuss how many applications you've sent.

It's even tougher when you aren't getting the results you expect and you
don't really know what to do to solve your problem. You also have few people
to tap into to help you figure out what's gone wrong. Solving this problem
is more than simply updating your resume
<http://www.careerealism.com/top-resume-words/> again, which isn't really
targeting your actions toward a solution.

How to Follow Up After the Interview

Proper and effective follow-up after any kind of interview
<http://www.careerealism.com/what-do-phone-interview/> , informational,
phone, or in-person, is incredibly important. Without it you will easily be
taken out of consideration for the position.

As a hiring manager, I purposely looked for the thank-you notes. If I did
not receive one, they were off the list, no matter how qualified they were.

Do you know why?

Because as a manager, I would think, "If they can't effectively follow up
with something as personally important as a job interview, what will they do
as far as follow up in the workplace?"

By now you understand finding the perfect job requires more than simply
writing a resume and posting it online.

In fact, if you are going to take the "apply-on-line" approach you should
spend NO MORE than two hours per week at it. Less than 5% of jobs are ever
posted online, so if you are going to find your next job fast you need to
spend your time elsewhere.

The successful and savvy job seeker will develop a compelling personal brand

Article: Resume Tips for the Overqualified Job Seeker (Vault.com)

Posted by: "Eric Nilsson" ericnilsson@earthlink.net   norsemantechnology

Sun Apr 22, 2012 1:09 pm (PDT)

Resume Tips for the Overqualified Job Seeker

If you're often labeled as "overqualified" during a job search, your resume
may need some revamping. You can address the overqualified issue in your
resume by limiting your work history to the most recent positions you've
held that target the job opening. Having too much experience in one job can
also be seen as a detriment.

Too many qualifications for the job

To avoid seeming too old or too highly paid, limit your related experience
to about 15 years for a managerial job and to about 10 years for a technical
job.

What about all your other experience? Leave it in your memory bank. Or if
you believe that the older work history adds to your value as a candidate,
you can describe it under a heading of Other Experience and briefly present
it without dates, as shown in the following resume example.

What to Avoid When Designing and Writing a Cover Letter

April 22, 2012 . by Teena Rose
<http://www.careerealism.com/author/teena-rose/>

Sometimes, fixing the little things can offer the most benefit.

Anyone writing a letter to a hiring rep should follow some golden rules
before hitting start on the fax machine, licking that envelope shut, or
hitting "Send" on that e-mail.

Treat your cover letter like any piece of business correspondence. It should
have a professional appearance, a professional tone, and possess accurate
grammar and punctuation.

Remember, you're out to impress, not turn a job away. Your correspondence
should command attention, and if it doesn't, you're virtually sabotaging the
opportunities that took so long to uncover.

Before sending, be sure to review your cover letter thoroughly. You're
looking for amateur mistakes; the kinds your competitors are making. Below
is a list of errors to avoid:

By Guest Blogger Shelly Goldman, Career Coach, Executive Recruiter and President of Goldman Group Advantage

Most people might be surprised to know that special rules make it possible for people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to work and still receive monthly payments. While it might sound questionable, it actually makes perfect sense. Why punish someone who is interested in trying to go back to work? If they did, no one would ever be encouraged to try! To assist people with disabilities in returning to the workforce, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has developed a number of work incentives…
