Learn to 'Boast' a Little in Your Resume

July 23, 2012 . by Dawn Rasmussen
<http://www.careerealism.com/author/dawn-rasmussen/> .

This morning I met with a client who confided in me that she is not "used to
boasting about herself" in her resume
<http://www.careerealism.com/resume-versions-need/> , and that this entire
exercise was very difficult for her. Then she laughed uncomfortably.

Too often, this is the case when people sit down to work on their most
important career <http://www.careerealism.com/resume-obituary-career/>
document.

They DON'T feel comfortable about "boasting" about themselves.

And that's exactly the problem. They shouldn't be boasting. Instead, they
should be telling stories where they are the starring character.

Which One is Keeping You from Getting Hired Through LinkedIn?

I love hearing exactly what's on your mind. Moreover, creating training to
address EXACTLY what you WANT TO KNOW.

That's why

going to be, in large part, created by you. If you have have already
registered, you know I asked a very basic question on the GoToWebinar page -
"What's your biggest hurdle with LinkedIn?"

With hundreds of responses so far, there are some trends (these are exact
quotes from what people have shared)...

* Not enough quality interactions with really good contacts.
* Representing my experience and strengths adequately while avoiding
the age factor.
* I have a diverse background in (insert ANY profession). How do I
chose what should go on it?
* Finding the time to really work my connections.
* How to improve the likelihood of being found by potential employers.
* Knowing how to make the best use of it.
* Getting job interviews.

And, of course...getting hired.

I'm taking all these questions and making sure you get led to the answers.

So, here's your chance.

If you are already subscribed to Career Connections Consortium (CCC)
Yahoo! Group, please review this message and post thoughtfully to CCC as
appropriate. Encourage others, especially associates new to any forum,
to do so as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those of you who have not yet subscribed to CCC Yahoo! Group (see
below), you may be missing valuable messages regarding career transition
and job listings. Several of our associates are sending messages with
appeal to multiple fora ONLY via the CCC posting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For those of you posting the same messages to multiple career transition
fora, you are unnecessarily burdening your peers with managing multiple
copies of the same message.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have not yet subscribed, read on, and then subscribe today.
Many members of this forum subscribe to a number of other Yahoo! Groups,
and share information by sending the same e-mail message to each of
them. Thus, the subscribers to several such Yahoo! Groups receive
multiple "daily digests" of the same e-mail messages. Receiving
multiple copies of the same posting hampers e-mail management, consumes
e-mail storage capacity, and wastes time.
Thus, an "umbrella" Yahoo! Group called Career Connections Consortium
(CCC) was implemented to be the preferred vehicle for sending messages
directed to multiple fora (see listing of supported fora below and on
the CCC Yahoo! Group home page). Please subscribe to the CCC site and
use it for broadcasting messages with appeal to multiple fora, rather
than sending the same message to each forum. We can DRAMATICALLY reduce
the duplicate messages now received by subscribers to the multiple fora
noted on the CCC home page.
Do maintain your subscription to this forum (via which you received this
message) for access to its web site and to get messages posted and
e-mailed only to this forum. Do continue to post messages to this Yahoo!
Group forum only that are intended ONLY for members of this forum. (Of
course, if you want your messaging shared explicitly with certain fora
only and no more, you should continue to post your same message to each
forum Yahoo! Group.)
Subscribe now to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CareerConnectionsConsortium/
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CareerConnectionsConsortium/>
to get messages intended for multiple fora, including this one.
Post messages that may be shared with multiple fora, including
this one, ONLY to CareerConnectionsConsortium@yahoogroups.com
(and do NOT post to each individual forum).
Helping you to help yourself;
Helping you to help others.
Sincerely,
John Hadley, on behalf of René
