Just wanted to run this perm/full-time opening by you! If it's not a
fit, I thought perhaps you know someone who might be interested? Would
massively appreciate it if you could take a look either way.

 

This is a brand new requirement and I'm keen to find someone great. This
opening is for an Associate Director who specialises in MS Exchange
infrastructure. Although they need managed/leadership experience, it's
also important that you have maintained a level of hands-on expertise in
design, architecture, support etc. Here's the spec:

 

This position is responsible for providing administration and support
for a complex distributed Microsoft Exchange e-mail and RIM Blackberry
environment. The responsibilities include providing architectural
design, capacity planning, system monitoring, project management,
software upgrades, management of staff, and implementation of new
technologies. The Associate Director will have enterprise-wide
responsibility for all messaging related architecture spanning the New
Jersey, New York and Regional Office locations.  This individual should
also be well versed in other aspects of computer architecture including:
Android and Apple mobile devices, SAN/NAS, server hardware, server
monitoring tools and procedures, and web technologies.

 
Primary Responsibilities

* Perform system administration tasks for project implementations,
which may include multiple, simultaneous activities.
* Provide technical direction and leadership to lower level
messaging administrators through the planning and implementation
processes.
* Perform off-hours on-call duties in support of the production
environment as part of a rotating schedule.
* Manage messaging administrators as well as perform both routine
and non-routine systems administration tasks for daily operations of the
production environment.
* Develop and implement technical documentation and operational
procedures to support day-to-day operations.
* Select, train, mentor and develop Administration staff. This
includes laying out and explaining day to day responsibilities as well
as making certain staff receives all pertinent training for their 
positions
* Build, maintain, and support, Microsoft Exchange 2010 servers,
including OWA, Active Sync, Autodiscover, and Exchange Server roles.
* Manage all major fix packs and software upgrades
* Set up, install, and maintain BES 5.0 infrastructure, including
high availability features
* Make certain all messaging systems are compliant with corporate
data retention policy standards
* Serve as an escalation point in the identification and correction
of complex computing systems and application problems, including
interaction with other support staff, personnel within the IT Department
and business users.
* Recommend modifications, including upgrades, additions or
deletions to systems or services.  Provide analysis and justification
for recommendations, which may include operational data, feasibility,
technological enhancements, and changes as needed.
* Propose and implement server consolidation/migration as necessary.
* Act as an active participant in the selection of all monitoring
and performance based software packages and tool sets.
* Project manage key capital initiatives in support of the messaging
environment
* Maintain security configurations and provide responses to internal
and external audits
* Maintain relationships and negotiate contracts with hardware and
software vendors including but not limited to Microsoft, RIM and other
third parties
* Manage all departmental software licenses

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

The ideal candidate should demonstrate an excellent working knowledge
of, and real world experience, in the following areas:

* Good communication skills, both verbal and written, in technical
and non-technical topics. Ability to communicate effectively with
individuals at all levels of responsibility and authority.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong, consistent service
orientation to both internal and external customers
* Ability to work independently and communicate progress/problems to
appropriate personnel effectively.
* Client software experience including Microsoft Visio, Microsoft
Project and other Microsoft Office suite products.
* Detailed technical expertise in Microsoft Outlook, Exchange 2010,
mobile devices including Android and IOS, EMC Clariion/VNX SAN
technologies,  Windows 2003/2008 Architecture

 

 

 
Experience Needed:

* At least 5 years of work experience in information systems in
positions of leadership and authority including project leadership,
staff supervision and management, customer service, budgeting, capacity
planning, disaster recovery, and computer systems and server
architecture design, implementation and support.  At least 3 years of
staff management responsibility.
* Must have experience in directing technical architectural design.
* In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux platforms, and
network protocols
* Experience in Server Consolidation, Backup and Recovery, and
associated best practices for implementation.
* Experience with the implementation of automated system monitoring
tools.
* Proven experience with security auditing, risk and threat
analysis, contingency planning, implementing security standards and
methods.
* Understanding of a broad range of IS issues, including firewalls,
user authentication, access controls, auditing processes, cryptography,
Internet protocols, physical security, and security management.
* Ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects.
* Experience leading projects from inception to completion.  This
should include experience with project management software and
methodologies as well as a track record of successfully completed
efforts
