Listed below are next week'supcoming networking events. All meetings are open to the public, plus you arewelcome and strongly encouraged to attend. Try going to at least one or twomeetings a week, what you learn there will definitely help shorten your time intransition. Also, many of these groups convene in the evening, so it will nottake time away from your daily job search activities

Think of these meetings asopportunities, sort of like going to school, to learn something that can reduceyour time in transition by gaining knowledge in job search and interviewingskills needed to excel and standout from your competition.

In traveling to these meetings,consider car pooling. Not only will it reduce the cost of driving there, butthe friendly conversation will make the ride seem to go much faster.

Ifanyone is aware of an upcoming meeting that you would like to share with thegroup, please let me know and I will gladly include it with my weekly updates.Also, if any transition support group would like to receive this list ofnetworking events to share with your members, please let me know and it wouldbe my pleasure to add your group to the distribution list.

Inthe event that snow or inclement weather is forecasted, please check with themeeting organizer if it will be canceled or postponed before traveling there.

WorkSearch is anonline system which provides links to job openings, skills assessment tools,and training programs at no cost to individuals. After taking the orientation, WorkSearch is accessible toregistrants through the Internet, or through Library computers. Attendees will be shown how to download theinformation to a USB flash drive (Bring your own USB drive). Wednesday, January8th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm: The New York Science, Industry and BusinessLibrary will host Win Sheffield, a CareerCoach, who will give a presentation titled: Why Don't I have a Job Yet? A job search involves many moving parts withresumes, letters, networking events, keeping up with contacts, as well asdifferent kinds of research and analysis and interviews to prepare for. On topof that we do not always really want to do it and so do not approach it asstraightforwardly as we might. Win will teach you to: 1) Plan in a way thatsustains you in your campaign, 2) Give yourself support setting goals andtargets and learn the difference, 3) Recognize what is hard and easy for youand incorporate that into your plan, 4) Know the importance of what you want ina job, and 5) Identify where you are and adjust your activity accordingly.
