JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Responsible for management, execution, and resources associated with the Payroll Services function within the Payroll Business Service Center (BSC) serving 45K+ US (including Puerto Rico) employees. This role oversees case management and works with the teams responsible for working with the various operating companies to be aware of potential payroll-impacting business changes, assist with specific payroll activities within the operating companies, help resolve issues, and relay/clarify communications. Assures operations and deliverables meet or exceed organizational objectives, follow BSC strategies, and integrate as appropriate with other service center functions. Evaluates existing business processes and facilitates process improvements and oversees user acceptance testing.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Define key tasks or activities and indicate percentage of time required to perform each task. 
% OF TIME 
Payroll Activity Management 
• Manage day-to-day case activities for the Payroll teams within the service center. Provide prioritization of work assignments and serve as an escalation point for issues. 
• Assure proper alignment of resources to operating companies based on the unique needs of each business and the skill/knowledge of each Payroll employee (e.g., union expertise, Puerto Rico expertise). 
• Define and implement consistent processes across the teams to facilitate open communication channels with operating companies to be aware of and plan for potential payroll-impacting changes, and pass appropriate information back to payroll teams to enable proactive preparation. 
• Assist with interpretation and completion of activities related to pay policies, calculations, processes to support accuracy and compliance of payroll for operating companies, such as: 
o Mergers & acquisitions 
o Employee changes (hires, terms, etc.) 
o Severances 
o Time & attendance 
o Short/Long-term disability (STD/LTD) 
o Special/One-time payments 
o Final pay 
o Pay claims 
o Manual/remote checks 
• In cooperation with Payroll Operation Managers, drive process to review, design, and document payroll processes based on the operating companies' nuances to customize payroll activites for each operating company. Organize and facilitate ongoing development, evalution and maintenance of documentation (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions) to ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of processes 
• Create and utilize metrics to drive performance, identify trends, and develop/implement process improvements, escalating issues and proposed solutions as appropriate. Partner with the Payroll Business Solutions team and/or Enterprise Operations team for guidance and support. 
• Serve as project manager for new payroll features/enhancement testing, acquisitions and divestitures, and regulatory initiatives. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Describe the minimum knowledge, skill and ability requirements for the position. Include any degrees or certifications which are required and/or desirable. 

RELATED EXPERIENCE:
10 to 14 years 

Describe any additional knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required. 
• Experience of developing/improving payroll processes to maximize efficiency & deliver quality services. Able to process complex information and quickly identify innovative solutions that meet both internal and business partner requirements. 
• Previous experience in payroll for a large multi-state company as a manager or supervisor. Experience with other payroll functions (tax, compliance, Treasury etc.) desireable, and experience in a shared service center environment preferred. 
• Experience with Payroll data applications and service providers (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, AonHewitt, Reed, Broadspire, or others acceptable) 
• Experience managing projects and knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and mitigating risks. 
• Experience with the design, execution, and improvement of Payroll administration 
• A sense of urgency in solving customer requests to ensure timely resolution and an ability to work effectively under pressure. 
• Experience of successfully managing multiple priorities & projects through successful delivery & implementation 
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact skillfully and confidently with internal stakeholders and colleagues to develop ideas, identify opportunities, and influence outcomes. 
• Knowledge of standard business practices and professionalism in a customer service environment are essential. 
• Ability to work in a team based environment as a model of customer service, teamwork, and leadership. Readiness to work with team members to ensure coverage for our customers. Attention to detail a must. 
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and delegate as appropriate by disseminating knowledge and techniques. 
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other designation strongly desired but not required 
• Experience with an ERP system (Payroll modules of SAP preferred) 
• Exposure to contact center applications (especially case management) preferred
