Technical Writer II

Information Builders' Technical Content Managementdepartment is a centralized team of writing, editing, online productdevelopment, print production, technical video production, and documentationfulfillment resources who devise, construct, and deliver IB's documentationproducts, which accompany and support our software products.

Technical Writers in the Technical Content Management department independentlymanage release documentation projects for multiple products within or acrossInformation Builders product divisions. For example, WebFOCUS, iWay, andFOCUS. 

 
Technical Writer responsibilities include:

- Managing release doc projects for various IB product releases based on release priority and customer demand.

- Coordinating rollout schedules with the TW Managers and software division Product Managers, as necessary, to deliver quality documentation in specified timeframes.

- Developing workload plans, project plans, and related rollout schedules to account for and prioritize work.

- Technical writing tasks, such as updates, enhancements, corrections, new features, installing and testing software, generating updates to online Help, addressing product updates (medprojs), communicating status about project progress, multi-tasking, indexing, developing glossaries. 

- Determining when support is required to meet deadlines; coordinating support to deliver quality, timely results.

- Training and supporting team members to serve as back-up or supplementary resources to your work. 

- Communicating contingencies in a timely manner and serve as the primary problem solver for assigned projects in an effort to meet deadlines and deliver quality results. 

- Demonstrating a positive and professional attitude in your performance.

The ideal candidate possesses:

- A Bachelors Degree in Technical Writing (or a related field, such as Professional or Technical Communications).

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2007/2010,XML/DITA technologies, content management systems, and information mapping.

·       A minimum of 3 years technical writingexperience in a software development setting.

·       Working knowledge of a typical softwaredevelopment projects' workflow, the techniques used to manage developmentsoftware content updates, and software development technical writing bestpractices.

·       Ability to learn the software productsassociated with assigned projects (from install to daily test to delivery ofcontent for production-quality software) independently.

·       Ability to plan work, manage time, and adaptworkload plans to cover assigned work.

·       Ability to effectively report status andcommunicate project activity to others, in a professional and timelyfashion. 

·       Excellent technical writing skills (i.e.clear/concise writing, editing, content design).

·       Excellent communication skills (i.e., written,spoken)

·       Responsible, positive, and professional attitudein all aspects of your performance. 

 
Notes:

·       This position is 40 hrs/week, onsite; plus ½ hrlunch/day minimum; some flexibility in 9am-5pm

- Independently learn department tools, processes, and strategies for delivering quality release documentation products.

The ideal candidate possesses:
