Some interesting survey results

Gerry Crispin and Mark Mehler from CareerXroads just published the results
of their 10th annual survey called "source of hire by numbers". This is a
well-established and respected report in the HR community. In fact, I found
their survey in the Wall Street Journal. This report is fairly
comprehensive but there are several facts which might be of interest to job
seekers and those who contemplate a change.
13.5% on the average of the workforce is contingent - meaning part time or
temporary
50% of all hires were filled by internal candidates. My interpretation of
this is that companies are doing the right thing by developing internal
talent.
27.5% of hires are attributed to external hires. No wonder it is so
difficult to get a job.
39% of firms use social media to manage prospects and candidates. This is
very encouraging and another good reason for people to use LinkedIn and
other social media.
