Not long ago, I did a post on why everyone needs a resume, even YOU. It's
the single most valuable bit of career advice I give to clients, friends,
and associates. Bottom line there: A resume is a priceless marketing tool
one should have at the ready at all times, whether one is a job-seeker, an
entrenched employee, a freelancer, or even a business owner. Read the whole
post here <http://moveyouforward.com/2011/04/why-everyone-needs-a-resume/>
for details.

The other top piece of career advice I give to anyone who will listen is to
get your LinkedIn ducks in a row. In short, be on LinkedIn and using it in
the best way to achieve maximum results.

What You Should Know Before Contacting a Recruiter

Considering contacting a recruiter

about executive or leadership jobs in your field? Many
<http://www.careerealism.com/contacting-recruiter/?utm_source=feedburner&utm

hunters assume forging connections with recruiters will put them closer to
lucrative, high-level positions that aren't otherwise advertised.

However, a successful recruiter-job seeker relationship doesn't just happen.
It's important to understand the relationship among all involved parties
(the recruiter, company, and you), get your resume in top shape, and to be
ready to deal with potential objections.

These tips will help you prepare to work effectively with a recruiter—with
better results from the relationship and a faster outcome for your job

What Are The Hidden Costs Of A Poorly Written Resume?

What could you possibly earn if you had the right resume? Gone are the days
where employers went only on referrals or had you fill out a job
application. Now there is one standard evaluation – the resume. You have one
chance to set yourself apart from the other tens or even hundreds of
applicants vying for your desired position, and that chance is your resume.
Because you can't explain the reasons in person for your career change, or
why you stayed home with your kids, or why you only stayed at a job for a
year – or countless other things that come up in the course of life – you
have to rely on a resume to tell your story accurately, positively, and in a
way that makes an

impression.

Determine How You Can Solve a Company's Problem

November 17, 2011

Lisa Adams <http://www.careerealism.com/author/lisa-adams/>

I heard that question, "So what?" the other day. It was a recruiter talking
to us career professionals about resumes and profiles. We were gathered for
a three day virtual conference to discuss career coaching topics. One of the
three days was focused on resumes and profiles. The first session was a
panel of nationally recognized recruiters discussing the future of the

versus the online profile.

In a nutshell, a solid resume is still a must. In addition, a solid profile
is also necessary. Resumes should be customized to the specific job where as
the LinkedIn profile can have a broader base.

Back to our above question - SO WHAT? - and the recruiter. What was she
trying to say? Basically, that when it comes to marketing yourself, you must
answer this question at the deepest level. You have to understand the value
you have brought to your past organizations and what you can bring to your
next employer.

When it comes to resumes and LinkedIn profiles do these three things:
