Systems Engineer – Network / Telecommunications

Due to growth in our Information Technology department we are expanding our staff and adding a senior-level Network and Telecommunications Engineer (Architect). This position's primary responsibility is for telephony service and related network design, implementation, and support for the enterprise. Our multi-site network and telecommunications infrastructure is largely based on Cisco and Avaya/Nortel respectively. Secondary responsibilities will include serving as an escalation point to internal IT staff to address incidents on existing/new systems and environments as well as other activities identified by IT management.

A viable candidate will have at least 7 years of relevant experience in support of a large company as well as designing large scale networks and telephony solutions. A candidate with experience administering Cisco/3Com network hardware and Avaya/Nortel telephony equipment will be viewed as a strong plus.

Some minor local travel between facilities may be expected.

The work week will be spent supporting the organization's three main facilities located in Queens, midtown Manhattan and Newport, NJ. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm, reporting out of our Manhattan office.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or related field.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Create network/telephony (PBX/VoIP) designs and innovative technical solutions based on business and technical requirements. Will include design/implementation of Voice over IP telephony services strategically throughout the enterprise.

• Proactive review/monitoring, performance-tuning, and capacity planning for both the telephony and underlying network infrastructure.

• Identify and address deficiencies in our network infrastructure and related services.

• Understanding of network security and solutions involving Cisco Network Security services/devices. (Firewalls, Email and Web Security, Content Filtering, ACS/RADIUS)

• Hardening of our perimeter network. Includes the scheduled execution of penetration tests for the perimeter network (Corporate and remote offices).

• Applied understanding of DMZ, VPN and Remote Access designs and implementation strategies. With a focus on mitigating security concerns related to outsourced components/resources and partner connections.

• Applied understanding of highly available core network infrastructures and disaster recovery principles.

• Serve as an escalation point to internal IT staff in support of enterprise network and telephony service requests.

• Manage manufacturer hardware repair/replacement activities (warranty/contract).

• Should have a strong understanding of process, candidate should be able to follow process or improve or create new process where it does not exist or may be beneficial.

• Operate and manage within a change control system.

• Create/maintain network & system documentation and related inventory information.

• Create project budgets and procurement request packages

• Create implementation project plans

• Maintain and increase technical capabilities through knowledge gained in product testing, training, and quality/process improvement.

• Network Design and Administration (Cisco)

• PBX Telephony Experience (Avaya/Nortel preferred)

• Voice over IP Experience (Cisco / Avaya/Nortel preferred)

• Telecommunications - Circuits and Signaling (FXO/FXS, T1/T3, PRIs, etc).

• Network and Routing protocols: TCP/IP, VLANs, ACLs, QoS, MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, and BGP.

• Wireless Design, Implementation, Security and Administration (Cisco)

• Project management (MS Project)

• Design software (Microsoft Visio or equivalent)

• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to details.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to interact with management.

Optional Skills/Certifications:

• Industry specific voice, network or security certifications a plus

Experience supporting:

• SAN storage environments

• Windows server environment

Experience:

Seven (7) plus years of technical experience using the core skills outlined above. Experience must represent design, implementation, administration

Application Developer

Due to growth in our information technology department we are expanding our staff and adding an Application Developer. This position's primary responsibility is to architect, develop and support our next generation of applications. These applications will consist of both thick and thin client applications along with web, and mobile applications.

The Application Developer will be involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle.

The Application Developer must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as have a passion for doing quality work and writing efficient code. The Application Developer must have a demonstrated ability to have a willingness to proactively learn and enhance their skill set.

The position will be based out of midtown Manhattan and spent supporting the organization's three main facilities located in Queens, midtown Manhattan and Newport, NJ. This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm. Some minor local travel between facilities may be expected.

Roles and Responsibilities:

· Design, develop, and maintain thick client and browser-based applications to address business needs.

· Design, develop, and maintain mobile applications for both Andorid and iOS devices.

· Conduct or participate in meetings with organizational stakeholders to:

o Understand current data and systems environment.

o Determine their software needs.

o Translate those needs into technical specifications.

o Build applications that meet business requirements.

· Work with IT Management, business users and technical staff to align data with the organization's business and strategic objectives.

· Adhere to project release schedules and provide accurate status updates throughout the process.

· Plan and implement capacity and resource expansion to ensure application scalability.

· Develop test cases and plans; assist with system testing.

· Mentor and cross train other members of the team.

· Provide training the Business Analysts and user community on using your applications.


Required Skills

· Microsoft Visual Studio .Net/Visual Basic (2005, 2010).

· Microsoft SQL Server (2005, 2008, 2010) (T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and SSIS).

· HTML/JavaScript/CSS/VB/.net/SQL and cross browser development

· Experience with or ability to come up to speed quickly on new device platforms (e.g. Android, iOS, and/or Windows Mobile).

· Knowledge of all phases of SDLC and ability to work within SDLC processes

· Overall understanding of web architecture and UI frameworks

· Strong interests in enterprise Web application performance optimization Capability of developing test cases, test infrastructure, and automated tests to benchmark web application performance

· AS/400, Business Objects, Sharepoint 2010 experience a plus.

Experience:

· Must be proficient in application and web development using .Net / VB and Visual Studio.

· Must be proficient with object-oriented programming concepts.

· Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to details.

· Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills.

· Ability and willingness to mentor your peers.

· Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals and groups at various levels, both inside and outside the department.

· Experience with IIS 6 and IIS 7 Configuration

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

· 5 plus years of technical experience using the core skills outlined above in a large corporate environment.

· At least 3 years of experience in application development.

· At least 2 years of experience in web development.

· At least 2 years of relational database programming experience with MS SQL Server.
