[itroundtable] Take Advantage of the Mainframe Talent Shortage

Here's a recent article from DICE commenting on the COBOL programmer job outlook.

Some interesting statistics from a Micro Focus survey done in 2009:
1. 70% of the business and transaction systems around the world run on COBOL.
2. 90% of global financial transactions are processed in COBOL.
3. COBOL supports over 30 billion transactions per day.
4. The average American still interacts with a COBOL program 13 times a day.

Then there is the usual quandary about the expected COBOL programmer shortage
due to retiring programmers and the absence of new ones versus the refusal of
employers to pay reasonable rates in light of this shortage.

The article ends with a few job search strategy tips.

Take Advantage of the Mainframe Talent Shortage
