Position Title - WRCOFDDBA072013

Development DBA - SQL Server/Oracle - SQL - PL/SQL - Financial Services -
Providence, RI Area - Up to $120K+

Excellent Base + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits - Excellent total package

Local Candidates Only - No Sponsorship

Company

Large - Global - Financial Services Firm (Commercial & Property Insurance) -
Growing Nicely - Very Stable - Collaborative - Team Oriented - Career
Focused.

Position Detail:

Database Administrators (DBAs) work in Oracle/UNIX and SQL-Server/Windows
environments. My client has a few RdB/VMS environments also. Applications
range from custom built to packaged software. DBAs design and develop
databases. They also customize database objects in some packaged software.
They provide all facets of database administration activity for both
traditional and object-based applications. DBAs develop, maintain and/or
tune stored procedures (PL/SQL and/or TSQL). They are also responsible for
data integration among applications and databases. They write and maintain
extract, transform and load (ETL) processes using tools appropriate to the
SQL Server, Oracle or RdB platforms. DBAs install, configure, maintain,
and/or upgrade relational database management software (RDBMS), as well as
software used for database administration monitoring/alerting and
maintenance. DBAs are responsible for maintaining optimal database
performance, security, and reliability/availability.

Database technology is an integral part of virtually all applications. DBAs
must understand the technical and business functioning of these applications
as well as the technical infrastructure upon which the applications are
built. They follow emerging technology trends and recommend the acquisition
and implementation of database-related infrastructure.

DBAs supporting application teams typically design and build databases and
database objects including stored procedures. They write and maintain ETL
processes that support both business driven data integrity and application
functional requirements. DBAs collaborate with business and data analysts to
enhance business process knowledge as well to gain an in-depth understanding
of data integrity requirements. They work with both application and
infrastructure teams to gain a strong comprehension of application
functional requirements and to ensure that application designs integrate
with database-related infrastructure in a manner that fully supports all
functional and performance requirements.

DBAs also create, maintain and enforce database standards and best
practices. They automate database administration processes where
appropriate. They are responsible for monitoring database performance
metrics and issuing alerts for potential issues. They take proactive steps
to eliminate potential database-related problems. When production problems
arise, they work collaboratively with appropriate teams to resolve them
quickly. They recommend and implement prevention steps.

Keys to this Role:

This is a Development DBA Role, primarily with SQL Server expertise (Oracle
would be useful as well).

The focus of this position is on development, not a traditional
Production/Application DBA role. This position is responsible for design,
construction and enhancement of the database-related components of
enterprise applications. Database integration is an important area of
responsibility. In addition to development skills, incumbents must have
significant experience in database/application troubleshooting. It is a
senior position so soft skills in communication and leadership are also
important.

Must be able to perform the DB functions mentioned in the position detail
above.

Required Skills and Competencies:

· A Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in a database
development role is preferred.

· 5+ years of experience with SQL Server & SQL

· Experience with Oracle & PL/SQL a big plus

· 5+ years experience in one or a combination of the following:

o Database design & development

o Database security architecture

o Database and application architecture

o Database administration in support of application teams

o Database administration in support of infrastructure teams

o Application development requiring extensive database design and
development

o Server Administration
