Starting Tuesday, November 5, I will be teaching a series of classes titles
"Learn To Re-Enter The Job Market" via the Princeton Adult School. Below is
the synopsis.

Finding satisfying work in a difficult job market is quite a challenge.
Spend five nights this spring learning important techniques to help make
getting that great job a reality. In this series we will cover such topics
as: how to prepare a winning resume, how to network efficiently, how to
craft your 30-second elevator pitch, and how to avoid pitfalls you didn't
know were there. We will craft verbal and written communication skills for
the person in transition, and learn about LinkedIn and your presence in
social media. In every session we will devote time to practicing mock
interviews to increase your knowledge and confidence.

Position Description

Human Resources Generalist

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: Director of Human Resources

FLSA Status: Exempt

Benefits Eligibility: Yes

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist position supports the Director of Human
Resource in all aspects of HR including, but not limited to, the
development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of 6 major areas:

* Payroll administration
* Administration of paid time off programs and income replacement
programs (e.g., vacation, workers compensation and disability)
* Administration of employee health & welfare and retirement benefits
* Compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
* Human Resources policies and procedures
* Employee relations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

. Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to
employees, insuring consistency and compliance.

. Process, verify, and maintain documentation relating to personnel
activities.

. Search employee files and payroll database to obtain information
for authorized persons and organizations, such as workers compensation
claims.

. Verifies routine unemployment insurance claims and prepares
documentation for submission. Refers exceptions to supervisor.

. Answers incoming telephone calls to HR department, screens calls,
and assists directly with routine inquiries. Refers non-routine matters to
supervisor.

. Answers routine inquiries from inside and outside the company on
topics such as employment verifications, benefits enrollment and claims
processing, and job openings in line with written Company policies.

. Requisitions non-exempt personnel from temporary agencies as
needed. Greets temporary personnel, provides them with personal protective
equipment (when applicable) and escorts them to assigned manager.

. Obtains approved weekly time records for temporary employees and
submits records to temporary agencies. Processes agency invoices with
documentation and submits to supervisor for approval.

. Compiles and maintains employee personnel files (both hard copies
and electronic) in line with company policies and government regulations.
Retains records in line with company record retention requirements.

. Provides Human Resources department orientation to new employees on
Company policies and programs; completes onboarding paperwork; signs up new
employees for various benefits programs.

. Coordinate with benefits brokers regarding new enrollees,
terminating enrollees, benefits materials, benefits communications, etc.

. Assists with development and implementation of new Human Resources
policies, procedures and programs.

. Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

* Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
* Strong organizational skills and extremely high level of attention
to detail

. Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity

. Ability to exercise poise, tactfulness and diplomacy in order to
handle sensitive and confidential situations

* Ability to work with limited supervision and high degree of
self-motivation
* Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment
* Resourcefulness and strong problem solving ability
* Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes
conflicting deadlines
* Enough knowledge of wage-and-hour laws and regulations to
efficiently calculate weekly payroll and accruals
* Basic knowledge of Section 125 cafeteria plans and 401(k) plans,
including maintenance, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements
* Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint)
* Strong skills using online payroll systems (preferably Paychex)
* Experience with desktop publishing software (Illustrator, Page
Maker, Photoshop) helpful but not required

Education and/or Experience:

. Must have a minimum of 3+ years of related experience as a Human
Resources Generalist or Coordinator, or the equivalent combination of
education and work experience

. Up-to-date PHR certification a plus

. BA/BS required

Language Skills:

* Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Must be bilingual in Spanish
* Must be able to translate discussions in a variety of settings
(e.g., meetings, interviews, workers compensation claims, benefits
enrollment, onboarding, etc.)

Mathematical Skills:

* Must have a good fundamental mathematical skill set
* Must be proficient in designing and utilizing Excel spreadsheets
with formulas and tables
