Lots of Upside – Join a team oriented, collaborative, results focused
environment and become part of an elite organization with great growth
possibilities.

Position Responsibilities – Summary

Our client is seeking an exceptional data engineer with strong technology,
leadership and execution skills to work on the Portfolio Construction
Applications team. This group's applications target sophisticated investment
products with active long and short exposures to all asset classes i.e.
equities, fixed income, currency, and commodities. Investment implementation
is via both cash instruments and a wide range of derivatives.

Due to growth and increased demand, this team is looking to add a "Data
Engineer" on the equities team.

The firm is only looking for the "Best of the Best, with the following key
attributes:

Technology Expertise

This is a position for an individual with superb technical ability and a
track record of successfully delivering highly performing solutions that
leverage large amounts of data. The focus of this role is data architecture,
large-scale calculations, and efficient delivery of information to consuming
applications. This is not a DBA role; however the Data Engineer will
contribute to the Data Service used by investment professionals at the firm.

The right candidate will be able to determine when to use features of the
Oracle database platform and when to develop functionality outside the
database using Java. Previous experience for the right candidate may include
responsibility for significant data delivery and data set manipulation. That
may have been in an environment such as in a quantitative research team or
fund team. This individual should be very aware of other technologies as it
relates to data, and should keep abreast of changing technology trends
throughout the industry. Strong process and methodology skills are also
required.

Business Domain Expertise

Although the firm appreciates the value of experience within the investment
management world for this role, technology strength, self-motivation, and
strong interest in the investment management world is far more important
than domain knowledge. Ultimately this individual will need to learn what
the underlying business drivers are and understand how securities are
structured, but intimate knowledge of financial instruments walking in the
door is not the emphasis. This role will have significant client facing
interaction.

The Data Engineer is a complex and challenging role and there are a number
of specific technical and non-technical requirements for this position. The
successful candidate will contribute data technology thought leadership to
the firm's engineering efforts, help set strategic technical direction, and
deliver advanced capabilities for the firm's global, low-latency, high
availability front office applications.

Responsibilities

In this role, the successful Data Engineering candidate will be responsible
for the following:

· Ownership of the equities data service, which delivers unified
positions, exposures, risk and performance data to an emerging class of
interactive portfolio analysis tools.

· Management and delivery of solutions that leverage large amounts
of data including construction of purpose-built, large-scale data sets

· Performing research to recommend improvements to data quality

· Researching, designing and testing data management software,
ensuring that it meets business requirements and industry practices

· Application design and programming using Java and SQL

· Data integration using client side tools such as JDBC, ODBC, and
ADO.Net

· Stay abreast of the "state of the art" as it relates to data
technology innovation and trends, both within the firm and throughout the
industry

In addition to working in a dynamic team that is well known for its
attention to detail and excellent delivery record, this role interacts
closely with peer engineering teams, business analysts, enterprise
architects and infrastructure teams across IS department.

Required Skills and Competencies:

This individual will bring a diverse background, skill set, and perspective.
The right person must incorporate outstanding technical skills- especially
with respect to data technology with strong people and process skills. This
hybrid balance between superb technology strength, interpersonal and
communication skills and process ability is a fundamental requirement. The
successful candidate will be concerned about the quality of their work and
how it contributes to the overall success of the team and the organization.
This person is looking for a career and not a "job". The successful
candidate will be an individual contributor who takes ownership of the data
service and data delivery. The appropriate candidate must be both
self-sufficient and a team player; someone who works hard and retains a
long-term perspective with a strong attention to detail. This position
requires:

Technical Requirements:

· A solid software engineering background, including at least ten
years of hands on development experience in a commercial environment

· Experience leading software development teams

· Demonstrated experience developing complex relational models

· A thorough understanding of data technology including relational
database platforms, transactional system design, ETL tools (e.g. Shareplex,
Composite), data replication tools, data virtualization tools, change data
capture tools and MPP/columnar data platform.

· 7+ years of application design and programming experience using
Java and SQL

· Working knowledge of JDBC, ODBC, ADO.NET or similar client side
data integration tools

Non-Technical Requirements:

· Degree in Computer Science or directly related field

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills

· Willingness to work in an energetic, fast-paced, business-critical
and team oriented environment

· Strong delivery focus and ability to overcome obstacles

· Ability to work without constant supervision

· Demonstrated experience in problem-solving skills and delivery of
quality solutions

· Demonstrated client focus and relationship management skills

· A strong team player, with ability to work in collaboration across
teams

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a self-starter
with leadership skills

· High energy, a passion for excellence, and a love for the business

· While prior financial domain experience is not mandatory for this
role, a keen interest and desire to learn the investment industry and how
securities are structured is a must.

If you feel you are one of the best, please email me your resume for

of this firm/role for you to review.
