Job Title – Storage Engineer

Location – Jersey city, NJ

Fulltime - Permanent

Responsibilities include:
Main Duties

Looking for a seasoned candidate with experience across a wide assortment of storage and backup technologies in a large environment. Must be very comfortable with frequent customer interaction, managing communications and actions plans around major incident events, reporting and interaction with senior IT leadership and business partners, and organizing large-scale technical transformations (migrations, upgrades, new product evaluations).

Primary responsibility is a focus on the clinical coordination and execution of day to day operational tasks for the Americas region. Candidate will contribute hands-on to all run-the-bank SAN administrative duties, including upgrades, standard allocations, port allocations/zoning, break-fix, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.   In addition, this individual will act as a senior team member and local lead, assisting the regional manager as a local 'go-to' resource for escalations and storage related inquiries. This may involve the direction of some of the local resources.

Colleague will drive the development of advanced capacity reporting, forecasting, and overall estate management. Adhere to all change and incident response SLAs. Off hours support as necessary.

Coordination of large scale component upgrades, datacenter migrations, and similar enterprise initiatives.

Ability to guide the work of contractors and Level 1 support personnel as needed.

Interact with IT staff or vendors in testing, operational support and troubleshooting of complex system hardware and software problems. Implement disaster recovery processes and procedures.

Develop, communicate, and maintain the operational standards and procedures.

 

Basic Qualifications  

B.S. degree or equivalent in a Computer Science related field

8 years + experience of distributed computing platform (Windows OS and Unix/Linux)

Preferred Qualifications  

EMC Coursework and Certifications preferred

 

Strong background across the following disciplines:

•    Advanced EMC technical administration/support capabilities (VMAX, DMX, Centera, Clariion, DataDomain, Isilon, CTA)

•    SAN Fabric administration (Cisco/Brocade preferred)

•    NAS administration - CIFS and NFS (NetApp preferred)

•    Backup Administration experience (TSM/Netback up preferred)

•    Team leadership experience; proven ability to coordinate large-scale activities

•    Exceptional troubleshooting skills in all SAN disciplines

·         Good PowerShell and/or Perl scripting desirable

·         Keen troubleshooting and problem solving ability (i.e. performance troubleshooting, etc.)

·         Familiarity with downstream client systems, Linux, Windows Solaris.

·         Good understanding of authentication and authorization system such as Active Directory and/or NIS.

·         Ability to work with engineering team and/or vendor for solutions. Ability to create written requirements documents

·         Must be able to work effectively with client and other systems technical staff, consultants and vendors. Should have potential to grow into leadership positions.

·         Self-driven, creative, and highly motivated with ability to think on their feet. Should be able to own multiple production environments with little direct supervision

·         Excellent communication skills
