Arrangement:  expected to be long-term contract position

Job Title:  Ethernet Microwave Radio Systems R&D Test Engineer

Location:  Holmdel NJ - must work on client's site fulltime

Timing:  Multiple openings - onboarding March 2014

 

Job Description:  Applies Ethernet radio engineering principles and practice in broad areas of complex technical project work that requires in-depth analysis using advanced techniques, knowledge, and expertise, evaluating point-to-point Ethernet radio and mobility network transport elements as part of our Telecom Client's Approval-for-Use process.

  • Designs tests and experiments; develops requirements and bench test plans; conducts bench tests to characterize Ethernet performance and network compatibility; collects, processes, and analyzes test data; documents results; determines the impact of results as they relate to our Telecom Client's engineering rules and guidelines documents; and supports successful initial deployments in the our Telecom Client network. 
  • Conducts regression tests across multiple radio platforms/network elements as new software/hardware is released.
  • Reconfigures lab equipment to mimic and troubleshoot field problems, providing lab design, provisioning, and maintenance of OAM, MetroE, and PE networks
  • Tests the Element Management System of the Ethernet radio platform. 
  • Conducts IPv6 testing. 
  • Provides technical expertise within project teams.
  • Applies expert knowledge and broad understanding of multiple disciplines.
  • Integrates expert knowledge of technical principles with knowledge of products/services and internal operations
  • Advises on our Telecom Client's technologies/systems/procedures/standards
  • Solves complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues.
  • Uses extensive research and interpretative thinking
  • Utilizes innovative methods in developing solutions. 
  • Works on abstract problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables
  • Acts as lead contributor on critical projects/technology initiatives
  • Develops enterprise-wide integrated radio solutions
  • Contributes to complex and innovative Ethernet radio solutions to achieve strategic objectives
  • Provides technical expertise to peers across the company
  • Leads team members on sub-projects, making progress on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Maintains a high standard of integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics.
  • Develop Ethernet radio solutions to complex business and technical problems using advanced engineering and scientific principles, experimental research and modeling, and product evaluation and analysis.

Education

BSEE (MSEE preferred) or related field

Desired Experience and skills

  • Experience with direct hands-on experience with Layer 2 Ethernet testing and debugging along with T1 circuit emulation.
  • A broad background in radio engineering and Ethernet performance characterization is required (with knowledge of governing deployment issues such as RLAG and adaptive modulation correlated with throughput).
  • Individuals must be familiar with measurement techniques and test equipment, data acquisition interfaces, and issues relevant to connectivity to our Telecom Client's network. Individuals must have hands-on experience with the Spirent Test Center, knowledge of basic routing protocols (like OSPF), and knowledge of PDH technology and associated test gear.
  • Individuals should have proficiency in design, provisioning, and maintenance of networks.
  • Individuals must have specific knowledge of Layer 2 Ethernet performance testing RFC 2544. Individuals must have excellent writing skills in English.  Co-residency with the hardware is desirable to change ports/cards/cables, confirm configurations when test results are negative, and to generate specific alarm conditions when testing Element Management Systems.
  • The individual is also responsible for Tier-4 field support once equipment is deployed, which may require immediate hands-on re-configuration of hardware.  Travel will be rare, but may be required to support First Field Application (FFA) trials around the United States when equipment is first deployed after completing lab testing.
  • U.S. Government Security Clearance for work with our Telecom Client Government Solutions team is considered a plus.
  • Exposure to multiple vendor relationships requires individuals to have a high standard of integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics. Individuals must have the flexibility to participate in and make progress on multiple projects at the same time as ad-hoc requests for test results are occasionally made by other organizations within our Telecom Client.
