  1. SOUND OFF: What are the Critical Competencies of the Modern CIO?
  2. How to Make it to the IT Corner Office
  3. IT is a Game-Changer for Tennis
  4. In Search Of: VP of IT – Marketing, Sales, and Customer Care, West Coast

Peter,

For the last few months, I have been on a hunt for the Top Ten Competencies of the Modern CIO. As you'll see from a blog I published earlier on the subject, I am trying to stay away from attributes like "communication" and "leadership" because 1) those terms are so boring! and 2) they describe any executive role, not just the CIO.

What about "Using Technology to Challenge the Fundamentals of Your Business" and "Telling a Compelling Story about IT"?  What about "Building Strategic Alliances" and "Developing Blended Executives"?

I could sit here in my office in snowy Boston and brainstorm the rest of the list, or I could turn to you, O gracious readers, for your write-in candidates. Please let me know, in a response to this email, What is the single most important (nuanced) competency that you believe is critical to the CIO role? As always, we will publish the list in a future Heller Report.

Thanks!

Martha
