Wishing 'congrats' on LinkedIn goes a long way

At least once a day, I quickly scroll through the updates of my contacts on
LinkedIn. When I see someone just started a new job, finished school,
received a quote attribution in an article or won an award, I wish the
person congratulations!

Resume alert! 3 useless phrases to delete

(MoneyWatch) The resume, in some ways, is similar to the Internet. Long
before the Web was around, resumes used key words to garner interest. And
they still do. While we're all becoming increasingly aware of Search Engine
Optimization (aka SEO) and how keywords affect Google searches (and
therefore your Internet reach), carefully chosen words and phrases on
resumes are as important as ever.

After all, you only have one page to grab someone's attention and hold it
long enough for them to decide that you're worthy of a job interview. So you
don't want to waste any precious real estate in your resume with worthless,
or even hurtful, phrases. Here are three such phrases to delete immediately,
along with far more effective ones to try instead.

See the phrases at this link:

9 Best Mobile Apps for Finding a Job

By Amy Levin-Epstein

Job application apps and other online tools have officially gone viral.
Never before has it been easier to keep track of jobs and contacts on the
go. A great example is the old standby, Monster.com
<http://www.monster.com/> , which now has apps for the iPhone, Droid, and
iPad <http://career-services.monster.com/mobile-apps/home.aspx> that allow
you to keep your job search -- including resume, cover letter, and listings
-- with you at all times. Because if you're hunting for a job, the last
thing you want to do is to be a day late -- and possibly a job short -- just
because you missed a posting.

My Personal Policy Regarding Accepting LinkedIn Invitations

by Jan Vermeiren - 11-21-11 mm-dd-yy

Before I share with you my personal policy regarding accepting LinkedIn
Invitations, let me give you a little background of my situation (which may
be totally different than yours).

As a professional speaker I give a lot of presentations to large audiences
about networking, referrals and LinkedIn. I meet approximately 1500 people a
year face-to-face and tens of thousands of people are attending a seminar,
conference, workshop or web seminar where I am one of the speakers or the
only speaker.

In other words: my profession is different than that of most people with its
pro's and contra's. Pro: I meet a lot of very interesting people. Contra:
most of the time I don't have enough time to spend even with the people I
want to spend time with (sometimes I wish I could clone myself, but then I
miss out on what the clones are experiencing ). Some people only meet tens
of people of year due to the nature of their job, so for them it might be
different.

Avoiding Job Scams - 4 Things You Need to Know

June 11, 2012 By Susan <http://www.workcoachcafe.com/author/admin/>

Job scams are proliferating. Desperate job seekers appear to be good
targets for the human predators who do these things, so keep your antenna up
and polish your scam-avoidance skills because the predators are getting
better, too.

If someone in the job posting industry food chain isn't well-trained or
paying close attention, these "opportunities" get a great deal of visibility
on legitimate job boards. Consequently, scam jobs are found on well-known -
and also on obscure - job boards. It may not be the job board's fault that
the scam job is visible, but be sure to let them know about it so they can
take it down.

Occasionally, legitimate employers post "blind ads" that disguise the name
of the true employer. They do this for a variety of reasons, like not
letting a competitor know what part of their business is growing. In those
cases, the jobs are usually posted by an "agency" - a firm hired to provide
both recruiting services and anonymity for the true employer. But, those
postings are not the majority or even 50% of job postings, so be wary of
blind ads which offer no indication of the employer's identity.

Before you click on a link, reply to an email, or apply for a job online,
take the time to do some research first.

Here are 4 things you need to know to separate the real jobs from the scams:
