[itroundtable] Volunteer Opportunity/Competition for Technologist: Code for Change - NYC

This comes to us from the NYC office:

I was invited to participate in Code for Change. Below is what I was asked to forward around to anyone technologists that might be interested. I think it poses a great networking opportunity for LHH clients in technology, not only with the many other participants but also with people such as the panel of judges, including NYC's economic development president, Seth Pinsky and chief digital officer, Rachel Sterne.

Want to win $10,000 and additional prizes helping solve some of New York City's most pressing social problems? Code for Change (C4C), a new tech competition happening September 28-October 12, is a new kind of hackathon. Instead of the traditional 24- or 36-hour hackathon timeframe, teams will have two full weeks to develop concepts and ideas for venerable New York City nonprofits and government agencies.

On Friday, September 28th, at NYU's Wagner School, we kick off the competition with an afternoon and evening of team matching, giving you a chance to meet face to face, pitch ideas and form working groups. Over the course of the next two weeks, teams will meet on their own time to work collaboratively on their solutions. On Friday, October 12th all participants will reconvene at NYU Wagner for a "demo day" when they present their solutions for judging at our exposition.

The competition is open to all coders, designers, data scientists, and other innovators. Learn more and reserve your spot here: http://applicationsforgood.org/blog/code-for-change/

The kick-off is September 28th; that is the day teams will meet and form. They then have two weeks to work off line and come back on Oct. 12th for a day of work, presentation and judging. But interested people shouldn't wait -- They can look at the challenge briefs and think about what interests them or even propose solution ideas.
