Very interesting and informative.  A great article by candace waller

http://scotchplains.patch.com/blog_posts/alex-freund-career-transition-tips

When Alex Freund coaches people in transition he leans on his own experiences. Freund, a Romanian born Israeli, came to the United States in the 1970s with his wife to attend Cornell School of Hotel Administration graduating in 1974. He landed jobs at Honeywell, Tyco International and sanofi-adventis  and he expected to retire from that field.

However after several downsize moves made it harder for him to find work in the hospitality field, his area of expertise, he realized he had to make a new plan. The organization and people managing skills that allowed him to move up the corporate matter ladder also helped him become a successful career coach.

Remaining positive and doing research are concepts that helped Freund find his career path and are ideas he recommends to job-seekers. People become overly attached to the past, not realizing that the way people search for jobs has changed drastically in the last five years. One example of this is LinkedIn, the number one social media site for job-seekers. Freund recommends that job-seekers post a full profile and picture to help them connect to people. Successful job-seekers have to be able to use social media to reinvent themselves to secure future opportunities.

Don't limit your career options by what you did in the past.
Freund used his time of unemployment to find out what he liked doing most. He got great satisfaction from helping out other people. He would give career advice, interview tips and even look over resumes.  He really enjoyed this and found he was good at coaching people on how to interview. People around him said he should charge for his services and become a career coach.  Freund could have resisted but he decided to follow his heart and it led to career that he enjoys.
Job-seekers have to realize that the work force may have changed significantly since they first started looking for work. The jobs they had in the past may require different skills or they may find that their background is suited to other positions. Use the time of unemployment to find out what you really want to do professionally.  There are several job clubs and organizations that can help you discover your passion.
Stay Tune To What Others Say Your Strengths are
Friends and colleagues alike commented on Freund's organization and teaching skills although he has never formally taught or studied education.  Career coaching demands the ability to manage and mentor others and requires the ability to organize.  Frank Kovacs founder of The Breakfast Club gave Freund the suggestion to name the website Freund started in 2005 LandingExpert.com. This useful career site is filled with information and has a 70-plus page document organizing a listing of job networking events in the tri-state area.
Freund is a much sought after speaker for career and networking groups and interviewing coach.  When he meets clients for the first time he diagnoses them after careful questioning. He is patient similar to a teacher coaxing a student who is not able to get the concept at first. These skills has helped him receive a high client satisfaction from people who have worked with him.
The skills you have may be suited to a career path you never considered before but be open to change. People tend to let the past dictate the future and this can be a mistake. Freund was able to find a new career by following his passion.
Become An Expert in Your Field
Freund spends much of his time reading career articles and posting them on LinkedIn and his blog on LandingExpert.com. He suggests going after a job that you are passionate about and have an aptitude for because this will come across during interviews. When people see articles you have posted or commented on you have immediate credibility. Freund was always willing to help job seekers and he keeps up-to-date on job issues and the ways social media could help those in transition.
His love of helping people has helped him land new opportunities. He will be teaching at the Princeton Adult School for the third time, he also is a regular presenter at job search networking  groups including The Breakfast Club that meets on the second Saturday of the month.
Make sure your resume stands out
Freund who runs several free resume clinics says that most resume are poorly written and don't do anything to get the hiring managers attention.  He recommends that job seeker should work with a recommended professional  resume writer to make sure the resume highlights your accomplishments and give a clear picture of you.  A good resume can make you stand out from the pile.
Human resources are inundated with resumes. They are looking for a reason to disqualify candidates so make sure  that you submit an outstanding resume that speaks to your accomplishments, includes key words, and gives a positive portrayal of you.

Alex Freund is a career coach who has taught hundreds of clients how to prepare for interviews that help them land their next professional opportunity. His website is landingexpert.com. He also attends The Breakfast Club meetings that are held an the Days Inn in East Brunswick the second Saturday of each month. Admission to the meetings is $10.
