Our client has an opening for a Senior Systems Administrator Linux in New York, NY. I have included the job description below.
 

 

The Senior Systems Administrator will report to the Director of IT and will help manage the technical infrastructure behind our client's global internet publications.

 

The Senior Systems Administrator will have at least 5-7 years work experience and in-depth knowledge of RedHat Linux operating systems as a system administrator. This includes system configuration and performance tuning, scripting, automation, troubleshooting in a 24/7 production environment, and LAN support.

A successful applicant will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and used to working effectively in an on-call rotation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Help Determine client Global infrastructure Strategy

* Provide on call Infrastructure and Operational support and diagnostics for client Global customers

* Provide on call CMS Infrastructure and Operational support and diagnostics for staff loc

* Coordinate with FT IT Operational Team for VPN Connectivity

 

* Monitor Infrastructure stability and performance

* Manage Global Product Release Environment

* Manage Global Virtual Infrastructure

* Manage Global co-location facilities and infrastructure

* Manage Global DNS servers

* Manage client In-house PBX Servers

* Scale infrastructure to meet demand

* Troubleshoot infrastructure

* Ensure system and network security

* Develop custom tools and scripts as necessary

* Document system design and procedures

* Work closely with developers in supporting new features and services

* Be on-call to support infrastructure

REQUIREMENTS:

* BS in Computer Science or Engineering

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to convey technical concepts to a non technical audience while winning their confidence

* Ability to work seamlessly with software developers, project managers, and business development

* An ingrained commitment to following projects and problems through to resolution

* Ability to produce and maintain written documentation (expect to provide a sample)

* 4+ years experience managing RedHat and/or Centos Linux in production environments

* 4+ years experience managing Apache web servers

* 3+ years experience managing MySQL databases, including MySQL

Cluster, or related High Availability Database experience (Oracle,

Sybase, PostgresSQL, DB2)

* 4+ years experience with scripting languages. Must have experience with at least at least two of the following: Ruby, PHP , Perl, shell/bash, Python

* Strong SQL

* Strong knowledge of DNS and BIND

* Strong knowledge of Protocol-level such as SMTP, DNS and LDAP

* Experience with a Configuration management system like Puppet or Chef

* Experience working with nagios monitoring in production systems

* Experience with SendMail

* Experience managing Amazon Cloud Services

* Experience working with web load balancing systems (UltraMonkey, HAProxy, and Ldirector)

* Experience with DR/Business Continuity and data backups

* Thorough understanding of distributed networking environments

* Significant data center experience including power, equipment installation, and cabling

* Experience implementing packet filtering and firewalls (OpenBSD PF, PIX, Fortigate, pf family, netfilter); IDS systems a plus

* Experience with Asterisk PBX systems

* Experience implementing Virtual Machines with VMware Server and Xen

* Experience Building and Installing Linux Packages from Source Code

* Experience managing the Subversion Source Control System

* Experience with Intrusion Detection

* Experience managing the Google Mini

The following are highly desirable:

* RedHat, MySQL or SuSE certifications

* Building BSD systems experience (especially OpenBSD or FreeBSD)

* Cisco router experience

* OpenView or other SNMP experience

* Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory

* Experience interoperating Exchange, Antivirus/Spam Filter, and Internet mail environments

* Experience working with vendors and neighbors in the technical community

* This candidate must be a team player and willing to work on other jobs as needed

Duties:
Be accountable to manage expectations of the Development Education Office staff, customer groups, and management with regards to successful implementation of training solutions locally and globally.
Be accountable to manage independently training solutions after a successful pilot training event and completion of revision activities. Manage priorities and workload in collaboration with Development Education Office staff.
Drive efficiency and effectiveness of implementing training events such as reserving rooms, technical equipment and technicians, preparing invitations, distributing materials, supporting participants, trainers, processing invoices from vendors for payment, filing relevant documentation locally including Confidentiality Agreements, Contracts, Quotes as received from a vendor including creating the details in the local purchasing system.
Be responsible for the correctness of training transcripts of participants to events managed by Development Education Office in Pathlore LMS (Learning Management System); file original Sign-In locally and ensure easy access for audit purposes. Data correctness is a pre-requisite to avoid unfavourable audit findings from Health Authorities on training / learning.
Encourage, collect and summarize feedback on training implementation from participants, trainer, vendors, customers, management and others efficiently to ensure improved quality of implementation and delivery of training solutions after pilot phase.
Manage revision of training solutions by collaborating with D&EO staff, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or external vendors. This may include re-visiting the method of delivery, material and contents such as slides, e-learning modules as well as any other type of currently used learning technologies. Revision is based on the results of evaluation, spontaneous and other feedback from participants, management and other sources.
Provide input to continuous improvement of Development Education Office processes and procedures.
