Position:               Web Application Developer

Department:             Information Technology

Reports To:             Manager of Programming & Reporting

Summary of Position

Responsible for the development, maintenance and enhancement of any web
applications utilized by client and it's business partners. Provide analysis
of complex specifications and develop and maintain program code in ASP.NET
using Visual Studio. Act as a reference to users of applications developed
and maintained by the IT Applications Team, as well as other IT programmers
and analysts. Perform training on applications developed by the IT
Applications team.


Specific Job Responsibilities

1.      Attend and participate in requirements definition meetings. Analyze
system requirements and develop model of applications needed.

2.      Perform the analysis, design, coding, system testing and documentation of
complex application programs in accordance with system requirements as
defined by the IT Business Analyst or Applications Manager.

3.      Perform definition of data elements, screen and report format design, and
screen flow along with Business Analysts and user representatives.

4.      Act as role model/reference for other IT application programmers and
analysts. Share programming knowledge with IT staff whenever possible.

5.      Provide support to users with respects to the research and resolution of
complex applications problems. Offer alternatives to the resolution when
problems cannot be corrected in a quick and/or cost effective manner.

6.      Organize and perform training of staff on applications developed by the
IT department.

7.      Act as IT programming representative at corporate meetings and on
corporate projects, when needed.

8.      Help ensure adherence to procedures and guidelines set by the IT
department.

9.      Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

Must have a Bachelors Degree in MIS/Computer Science or equivalent
experience. Must have
5 years of web programming/analysis experience in the commercial lines
insurance industry.

Technical Skills/Requirements

1.      Extensive experience creating ASP.NET Web Applications and Web Services
using C# in Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2005.  Experience in Visual
Studio 2008, a plus.

2.      Familiarity with ASP.NET AJAX-Enabled applications and other 3rd party
controls, a plus.

3.      Experience coding in JavaScript.

4.      Knowledge of Model-View-Controller Framework concepts.

5.      Familiarity with IIS and web application security concepts.

6.      SQL experience on Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2(iSeries a plus).

7.      Experience in the following technologies would be a plus:
a.      Silverlight
b.      Sharepoint
c.      Web-based reporting (ie - Reporting Services, Actuate)

8.      Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle.
