TOPIC

Do you have your "story" in place? Can you effectively answer behavioral interview questions? Do you have your answers in place for those tough questions you may be asked? Everything in your career search comes together in one critical meeting -- the interview. This is the make or break point.

You can excel at presenting yourself, engaging people in networking, securing referrals, and navigating around gatekeepers, but if you can't turn interviews into offers, all will come to naught.

Each quarter, we share simple techniques and let you practice interview skills in a safe environment. Don't let the interviews that matter be your "practice" interviews!

Article: Keywords in Résumé Lead to Interviews (InternsOver40)

Keywords in Résumé Lead to Interviews

Eighty percent of all submitted résumés (and 100 percent of résumés sent to
Fortune 1000 companies) get scanned by software commonly known as an
applicant-tracking system (ATS), and such scanned résumés are stored on a
server in a digitized format. Humans are seeing your résumé only if it
resurfaces based on a query. That's why most job applicants don't receive
responses from companies after submitting résumés. Therefore, in order to
increase your résumé's chances of being at least viewed by a human--even if
it's not thereafter considered suitable--you have to understand the process
and beat them at their own game.

Scan Your Way to a New Job with QR Codes

By Andrew G. Rosen <http://money.usnews.com/topics/author/andrew_g_rosen>

Quick Response codes, better known as QR codes, are two-dimensional barcodes
that can serve an important role in your job search. While not a replacement
for an online resume or a professional business card
<http://www.jobacle.com/blog/2010/8/12/5-business-card-tips.html> , QR codes
can be an excellent complement to your overall get-a-job marketing campaign.

Don't let the QR code's high-tech look scare you; the technology has
transitioned into the mainstream and is on track for exponential growth. If
you write off the QR code as a mobile marketing darling that will fade out
fast, you will be left behind. QR was originally used by factories in Asia
to decode warehouse items and have been around since the mid-90s. By all
accounts, they're here to stay.

Read up on the basics so you can start using QR technology in your job
search today:
