*Business Architecture's Role Within Enterprise Architecture

*Enterprise architecture consists of four key architectural views: business,
application, data and infrastructure. This presentation will introduce all
four but will focus on the business architecture. In fact, many of the
techniques to be discussed can be used for business modeling alone. However,
the benefits increase exponentially when the business architecture is
incorporated into the overall enterprise view. The objectives for the
presentation explained through a UML model are:

- How to formally model the business architecture in a precise and
unambiguous manner so that it can be related to the other architectural
views.
- How to map the business processes to the underlying technology for both
current and future state plans.
- How to include business requirements and use cases in the business
model, making them first class architectural elements.
- How to trace use cases to the technology elements that realize the use
cases.

Terry Merriman is the President and Chief Architecture of OAD Consulting,
Inc. He has over thirty years in software development and founded OAD in
2000 to provide consulting and training services in the Enterprise
Architecture space.

He has consulted with Fortune 500 companies in the US and Europe, providing
training, on-the-job mentoring and "front-line" consulting services on
multi-million dollar projects. For the past ten years, he has also worked
with clients to create architectural principles and guidelines and
supporting toolsets to make designing systems that conform to the principles
and guidelines the easiest path to take.

increase their visibility within their organization and better position
themselves to work at a more senior, strategic level. They want to be
noticed and earmarked for succession by supervisors; to be seen as a thought

In November I wrote about whether or not the roles of PM and BA could be
combined into one. I received wonderful responses, all of which broadened my
perspective. Although I remain convinced that in most circumstances both
roles are preferable, I understand that certain conditions, such as project
size and corporate culture, may dictate whether or not one person plays both

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ In February, Twitter had nearly 7.1 million users, with a growth rate of 1,382 percent from the year before, according to Nielsen NetView. As mainstream America braces for the Twitter storm, talent acquisition professionals are just beginning to uncover all the social network has to offer.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Little more than nine months ago, at digital advertising agency Organic, we began to incorporate Twitter into our social media recruiting strategy. We held a “Twitter Twaining” with our recruiters, introducing them to capabilities of the network, along with helpful accompanying apps and instruction on how to search for key talent.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ They ran with it, and in a short time, Twitter has become the anchor of Organic’s job posting strategy. In fact, today more than three-quarters of our jobs are placed solely on social media sites such as Twitter (along with LinkedIn, Facebook and, of course, the company Web site). Only a quarter of our postings are posted on traditional job boards such as Coroflot, Mediabistro, Monster and TalentZoo.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Why are we weaning ourselves from traditional job boards?
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Simple: We get results from social networking tools with no expense. Every day we discover new and innovative ways to use social media for our recruiting efforts.
Cultivating relationships
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚  Twitter enables us to focus on passive candidates by following someone we may not yet know. We can nano-target qualified candidates and cultivate relationships well before we have an open position, engaging in thoughtful dialogue by responding to their tweets.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Once we have an opening that might be a fit for a Twitter friend, rather than making a cold call to a stranger, we can make a “warm tweet.” We can talk to someone with whom we’ve already interacted, who already understands a bit about Organic based on tweets that cover Organic’s culture, work and news items. It’s less like a blind date and more like a first date with someone you’ve already met.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Another benefit: There are no time or space constraints to tweeting with a candidate. We don’t have to interrupt potential candidates during their busy workdays; they can engage with us when it’s convenient for them. And candidates who aren’t ready to make a move can easily retweet, or forward, our opening to peers who may also be a fit.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ More than one-third of Organic employees are active on Twitter. The viral implications of this are huge. Now, when a job is tweeted by an Organic recruiter or hiring manager, employees have the opportunity to retweet it to friends. That capability nicely complements our employee-referral program, which has experienced an uptick. In fact, a third of Organic’s hires are found through employee referrals.
Helping them find us
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚  Twitter also helps talent find Organic. Using Twitter’s latest job search app, candidates can find Organic jobs easily. Twitter’s searchability has made us think more about our own “findability” and altered the way we post jobs.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ We’ve created a new formatting protocol to increase our chances of being found. Today, our postings must be headlines, 140 characters or less. Key words in our postings get hash marks (#). Each posting includes a trackable URL that enables us to monitor click-throughs and directs candidates to apply through our applicant tracking system. That way, candidates who aren’t right for the job they’re applying for will be entered in our database for future opportunities.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ While Twitter and other social media sites may seem like the flavor of the month, the real proof is in the numbers. In terms of return on investment, there is no investment besides time. From a branding perspective, it’s always a win.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Retweeting is easy and more far-reaching than posting on a traditional job board. With a solid social networking strategy, most companies can reduce job board spending quickly, while pinpointing discipline- or industry-specific candidates.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Social networking has changed the way Organic recruits, but it doesn’t replace the importance of face-to-face contact. Instead, it serves as a great jumping-off point. Ultimately, interpersonal chemistry and cultural fitâ€"in addition to skill setâ€"are an important part of our hiring process.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ As Twitter and other social media sites continue to grow in popularity, employers who participate will find a goldmine of sophisticated candidates. Devising a strategy around social media isn’t difficult, but it does require a mind-set leap: from traditional to twaditional.
Six tips for recruiting via Twitter
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚  • Create a branded company Twitter profile. Assign a key personâ€"or automate tweetsâ€"to post jobs as they become available. This person should also be responsible for following professionals that could be potential candidates.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã¢€¢ Don’t be a Twitter wallflower. Engage in conversation with the people you are followingâ€"and your followersâ€"whether you have job openings for them or not. Then, when you need to speak with someone about an opportunity, you’ve already established rapport.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã¢€¢ Create a protocol for your job Tweets. Consider searchability by using hash marks (#) around key words. Include a trackable URL to your job posting so you can monitor the number of click-throughs a job posting receives.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã¢€¢ Help your search by using a third-party tool such as TweetBeep, which alerts you to tweets relevant to your search.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã¢€¢ Encourage your staff to retweet job openings by providing an incentive such as a referral bonus for candidates sourced through tweeting.
 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã¢€¢ Don’t be a one-track tweeter. Be varied and creative in your approach. To keep it real and not boring or spamlike, tweet on a variety of topics including industry-related items of interest, some personal tweets and, of course, your job postings.

The Senior IT Change Manager will work with administrative and academic department heads to ensure desired business results and enable faster adoption, greater utilization, higher proficiency and acceptance of changes impacting employees.

Responsibilities:

- Applies a structured change management approach and methodology for the "people side" of change required for the successful implementation of IT projects.
- Develops and oversees actionable and targeted change management plans for IT projects based on situational awareness of those impacted, including a change management roadmap, engagement plans, communication plans, training and documentation plans.
- Identifies the potential "people-side" risks and anticipates points of resistance, and develop specific plans to mitigate or address the concerns.
- While the Senior IT Change Manager does not have supervisory responsibility, this person works through many others in the organization to succeed. The Senior IT Change Manager supports project managers and their teams in integrating change management activities into their project plans.

Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years experience with large-scale organizational change efforts.
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of change management principles, methodologies and of how people go through a change and the change process.
- Familiarity with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization and influence others to progress toward a common vision or goal.
- Inherently collegial and collaborative, possessing exceptional judgment and sensitivity to the culture of the University and its constituencies.
- Excellent analytic, problem solving and root cause identification skills.
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with, IT products and services.

A BACKGROUND CHECK FOR THE FINALIST IS REQUIRED

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a University setting is strongly preferred
- Change management experience in an IT organization is highly desirable
- Change Management Professional designation is a plus
- Advanced degree is preferred
