Take the Next Important Step to Landing that Job –Step 4: The Se

Posted by: "Judi" judi@rightchanges.biz   judi.adams@ymail.com

Thu Jul 8, 2010 8:06 am (PDT)

If you have been following the steps outlined in this series, then you have completed steps one through three: every day you have chosen to have a good attitude, you have inventoried your unique skills and accomplishments, you have identified your target companies, and you developed and polished your marketing materials. You are now ready to find job leads and secure interviews.

From antidotal evidence, the percentage of job seekers who are using the wrong approach to the search is 80%+. Let's look at the various approaches and it will be obvious where you want to spend the majority of your efforts searching for that next opportunity.

For the full, multiple-page article go to:

http://rightchangesjobsearchcoach.blogspot.com/2010/07/take-next-important-step-to-landing.html

To be successful, job seekers need to use the various search approaches proportional to their rates of return. Spend no more than 10% of your job search applying on-line. Do not spend more than 15% of your time working with recruiters. The majority of your time should be spent networking.

People who are currently employed should be networking too. Your next job is not your last; develop your network now before you need them. As the title of Harvey MacKay's book indicates "Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty".

In the next installment of the "Take the Next Important Step to Landing that Job" series by Judi Adams Sanek, Senior Job Search Coach of RightChanges.biz, we will cover Step 5 – Sort (The Interview).

Call for Speakers for MId-NJ ASTD Chapter Meeting

Posted by: "Jim" jlcollymore@comcast.net   jcollymore2006

Thu Jul 8, 2010 3:02 pm (PDT)

Greetings.

I am writing on behalf of the Mid-NJ Chapter of the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD).

During these difficult economic times, finding and retaining employment in the learning & development (L&D) field is particularly tough. Training is often the first thing cut and the last thing brought back in by employers.

More employers are now trying to hire ONE L&D professional with skill sets usually belonging to several specialized people (e.g., instructional designer, LMS administrator, stand-up trainer, technical writer, JAVA/HTML programmer, project manager).

Topics to be addressed might include:
* what has happened to the jobs that required a traditional training manager?
* how do I "re-tread" myself to be an "Instructional Designer" (not a traditional "Course Developer")?
* what new skills in e-learning development (Articulate, Captivate, etc.) do I have to have to be a viable job L&D job candidate these days?
* where can I find courses in my geographical area to learn Flash, Captivate, Adobe Presenter, Photoshop, etc.?

With this in mind, we are looking for qualified speakers to present at an upcoming chapter meeting the various strategies, resources, and opportunities that L&D professionals can use to successfully compete to get back in, and stay in, the workforce.

If you know of someone that can speak to these issues, please send me their contact information, along with their credentials as soon as possible. Send to: JLCollymore@comcast.net

Thanks very much.

Regards,
Jim Collymore
