SUMMARY

The Actuary will be expected to apply the knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to Unpaid Claim Liability, Trend Analysis, Rate Formula Evaluation, Dentist Fee Analysis, Financial Forecasting and Business Analytics. The Actuary will closely interact with the Vice President, Underwriting who is responsible for the renewal and quoting functions of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct special actuarial studies and provide the necessary level of expertise in the areas of work assigned
• Review of experience, rates, provider reimbursement, profit margins and administrative expense margins of the Delta Dental indemnity (risk) business
• Review of Delta Dental products, including analysis of experience, profit and rate adequacy products such as pools, associations, new product designs and special products
• Review and analyze the adequacy of administrative income, in conjunction with current sales, underwriting and corporate profitability objectives . Perform periodic analysis of the impact of changes in administrative income based on the evolution of the book of business
• Review and analyze the ongoing Delta Dental claims experience; trends in utilization; fee inflation; experience within specific business segments, etc.
• Identify and analyze the internal and external factors which affect statistics for use in forecasting, trending, and rate models, etc.
• Review and analyze the various business relationships and partnerships (Delta Dental Insurance Company, etc.). Perform periodic analysis of income versus expenses and profitability
• Responsible for the calculation and implementation of reimbursement tables and allowable fees and the impact of any changes and/or modifications
• Perform periodic review of administrative fee tables
• Calculation and review of the Unpaid Claim Liabilities (IBNR) including run-off reporting and projections
• Prepare and sign the actuarial opinion as part of the Annual Statement filing requirement including the loss reserve specialist function for the Dental Re statutory filing
• In conjunction with Delta Dental's General Counsel, act as primary contact with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance pertaining to actuarial related matters
• Primary point of contact for interaction with external actuaries dealing with company matters (Deloitte & Touché, Milliman, Mercer, etc.)
• Participate on product development teams as requested
• Collaborate with programmers, the Vice President, Underwriting and members of senior management to help develop plans for new products and/or improving existing business
• Responsible for the preparation and adherence to the departmental budget. Prepare variance reports to monitor department expense activities
• Special projects and duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Personal Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field, with emphasis or experience in Business or Insurance. An ASA and/or FSA designation required and a minimum of 5 plus years of actuarial experience in the Healthcare Insurance industry (dental experience a plus) and a minimum of 3 years of management experience. Knowledge of valuation and financial projections as well as familiarity with GAAP and statutory financial reporting and accounting principles is essential. Knowledge of business intelligence and data warehouse applications is highly desirable.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with the ability to establish priorities and make decisions and to work independently with proficiency with MS Excel & Office and other proprietary software applications.

Director of Technology at The Brearley School

A new position at Brearley overseeing two formerly separate departments—Administrative Technology and Computer Education— the Director of Technology is a twelve-month, key administrative position responsible for development and implementation of technology at the school. The successful candidate for the position will be a strategic thinker and careful planner who understands the academic culture of schools. He or she must have the capacity to oversee and manage the day to day operations of the technology faculty and staff and must have had substantial experience with networking, as well as current hardware and software. Teaching experience is preferred; experience with integration of technology into classroom practice is essential. Candidate must have B.A. or B.S., though advanced degree is preferred.

Duties may include:
• Management of IT staff and faculty as well as technology/curriculum integration
• Development of ongoing and new initiatives related to technology
• Decisions about modifications or additions to network services
• Management of outside consultants and vendors
• Determination & management of the IT budget
• Oversight of all IT projects in all major departments
• Setting up and managing security policies
• Membership on Academic Affairs Committee
• Chair of the Technology Committee

Skills:
• Teaching experience preferred
• Experience in and knowledge of the most effective classroom uses of technology
• Specific hardware and software experience: current Mac, PC and Linux operating systems, (server and desktop); familiarity with database, student information, content management and collaboration systems (such as Senior Systems, First Class, and Raiser's Edge).
• Knowledge of methods and devices for strengthening and supporting data security
• Technical expertise: understanding of Network administration–repair, support, and maintenance
• Capacity to evaluate software and hardware for purchase and use
