Position Responsibilities - Summary
My client seeks a Sr. JEE Engineer who will be responsible for the
evaluation, design, engineer, build, and support of middleware products.
This individual will be primarily responsible for building middleware
environments and delivering application teams value-add services including
products evaluation, system design, performance tuning, capacity management,
and systems integration. The person will also be responsible for promoting
standard IT processes and architectural best practices.
The key words are: Infrastructure Design, Engineering and Delivery
Strong system analysis, architecture, design and research skills -
The position breaks down as follows: 60% hands-on system engineering, 25%
infrastructure research, design and architecture practices, 15% leadership:
working with support engineers and developers across teams
· Very close to the technology - research, design, prototype and
configure middleware products/solutions
· Core Java and JEE
· Oracle products: WebLogic, Universal Content Management (UCM) and
OES
· Other Technology: Tomcat, Spring framework, SOA and Portals
· Messaging: WebSphere MQ, Active MQ and JMS
· Database: Oracle 11g
· Good knowledge of ITIL practices - Configuration, Change and
Release Management.
· Strong Infrastructure Management background - capacity planning,
performance management and security
Key Responsibilities;
· Work on the architecture, design, implementation, deployment, and
support of the middleware Infrastructure
· Evaluate middleware product's features, upgrades and migration
path
· Work with platform, operations and application teams to implement
middleware infrastructure standards, best practices and guidelines
· Conduct Infrastructure configuration tests by developing test
plans, scripts and presenting results
· Provide technical leadership and mentoring, promoting adherence to
standardized IT processes, strategic principles and architectural standards
Client is looking for a candidate with 4 to 6 years of experience. Ideally,
3 to 4 years of Java development along with 1 to 2 years of Infrastructure
Engineering (Weblogic, Tomcat, Spring). They will consider Websphere in
lieu of Weblogic. Firm uses Weblogic.
The ideal candidate will have these traits:
Keys to This Position:
1. This is a Hands-on Systems Engineer that has a development and
infrastructure background. This is not an Architect role. It is a hands-on
Engineer/Developer.
2. The technical requirement includes:
Weblogic
Spring Framework
Tomcat
SOA and Portal Products
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Strong systems analysis and engineering skills
· Strong understanding of middleware technologies and infrastructure
management
· 5+ years in middleware technologies including WebLogic, Tomcat,
Spring framework, WebSphere MQ, Oracle UCM, SOA and Portal
· 3+ years in Java/JEE development
· UNIX scripting is a strong plus - Shell, Perl, Python and WLST
· Project management skills is a plus
· Vendor relationship management and troubleshooting skills are
required
· Excellent verbal and written communications skills
· Strong motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced,
team-oriented environment
· Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field

Detailed Responsibilities:
· Act as a key member of the management team within the Decision
Support and IV (Investment View) areas.
· As an individual contributor or as a project manager, handling
small, medium and large scale projects and initiatives related to IV
functionality, consumer feature and function requests, new instrument
modeling, and general FI-related activities.
· Manage, coach and provide technical/business guidance to
contractor staff members in responding to production support issues related
to fixed-income analytics, the portfolio management applications, IV, and
other applications and processes.
· Conduct business analysis in connection with selected fixed-income
and IV-related projects.
· Oversee data quality initiatives within the Decision Support area.
· Promote process improvement initiatives.
Keys to this Position:
1. Domain Knowledge: Strong background in Fixed Income Analytics
(duration, convexity, etc.) and Derivatives(swaps, futures, options, etc.)
is required.
2. Strong Systems Analysis skills. Problem solving skills are critical -
working through problems methodically and analyzing numbers.
3. Strong Client Relationship skills are required.
4. Strong Leadership skills.
5. Technical skills: Strong SQL (PL/SQL) query skills & database analysis
skills (Oracle is Preference)
6. Selling point: This individual will get exposure to every asset class
in the firm and offers a great career launching pad. This role supports the
entire front office (Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, etc.)
